Oh that´s a cool backround info, thanks :)

Nicologik

Wow, only 11 out of all of them? That´s not a lot. I think i have more already :D But then again, I count almost every single finale episode, that we´ve seen in this show. :) I love the Horror, Science Fiction combo. That´s just the best combination for this show. It almost always worked for me. Apart from those "Mommy episodes" back then. Also it´s unfortunate that people got spoiled when it comes to the Masters return. I consider myself soooo lucky, to be able to get into all of this completely blind. :) Thank you for letting me know, that the episode titlte comes from a poem. I was wondering already, cause it sounded really weird. But now it makes much more sense :)

Nicologik

Thank you so much for clarifying the Master Storyline. I knew there was something that I had forgotten, but I couldn´t remember what it was...Well, duh! :D I really don´t understand why the BBC would always spoil the best parts about the Doctor Who episodes? This is just ridiculous. Poor fans who get spoiled because they watch TV and that addd comes up. I can´t wait to watch the next episode, later today :D :D :D

Nicologik

Yes, I agree. I love the dark and brutal side to this story. It wouldn´t have had such an impact if they had decided not to do that. I´m glad with their decision. :) I can´t wait for the next episode either :) Gonna watch it today :D :D

Nicologik

Oh so this is a Moffat story? No wonder I love it so much. Moffat is such a great writer. This man has imagination! I feel as if the doctor whifted away from beeing childfriendly a lot of times in those las series. Or maybe children nowadays are so used to watching brutal stuff on social media and even television, those Dr. Who Episodes don´t make them anxious anymore. Haha, no I don´t need to be upgraded :D

Nicologik

Wow, what a brillinat description of the episode. Do you want to do my reviews for future videos? :D Seriously that´s so well worded, loved to read it. And completely agree with you :) Oh and thanks for the "Genesis" explanation. I knew I had heard that name before. :)

Nicologik

I´m happy that my video helped, making up for your loss of the first watch, a bit. (I´m not 100% convinced, that this sentence makes sense that way, but I hope you know what I wanted to say :D :D ) And thanks for not spoiling btw :)

Also, Peter Capaldi had a vivid recollection of watching the Cybermen as a child back in the 1960s, and wanted them to appear in one of his episodes. The design of the Bill Potts Cyberman at the end of this episode is basically identical to what Capaldi got to see over 50 years earlier!

I've just done a quick count, and a total of 186 full episodes of New Who have been broadcast so far. I only rate 11 of those episodes a full 5 out of 5. This episode is one of them. I wish DW did horror more often, and I wish it did "proper" science fiction more often; fortunately, this episode combines both wonderfully! On top of that, we get the brilliant revelation of John Simm's Master, whose return typically works better for reactors than for people at the time. Others have mentioned that the BBC publicised his reappearance, but I believe they only did that because they became aware that the tabloid press in the UK were going to leak it anyway. Without going into detail, Mondas was in a pivotal DW story broadcast back in the 1960s. Unfortunately it's one that has a missing episode, although the BBC has had an animated version made that uses the original audio for the actors, music, and sound effects. You'll remember that we saw an origin story for Cybermen on a parallel Earth back in Series 2, but we never got an origin story for our universe's Cybermen in the classic era. One thing that hasn't been commented on yet by others is the episode's title, which is from a 17th century poem called "To His Coy Mistress". Here's part of it: Had we but World enough, and Time, This coyness, Lady, were no crime. We would sit down, and think which way To walk, and pass our long Loves Day. [...] But at my back I always hear Time's wingèd chariot hurrying near: [...] Now therefore, while the youthful hew Sits on thy skin like morning dew, And while thy willing Soul transpires At every pore with instant Fires, Now let us sport us while we may; [...]

Ok you're timeline for the Master/Missy is nearly correct. Yes the first time we saw the Master was in the story with Martha and it was at the end of that we saw the body of the Master being burned and the ring dropping to the ground. However he was brought back in the last two part story with the David Doctor. That's where he ending up stopping Rasillon killing the Doctor and disappearing along side Gallifrey when it was sent back into the Time War. Then we got Missy in the story you said with the Cybermen. AS for the Genesis title you are probably remembering the Dalek story by that name. Ok I don't usually talk about two part stories until after the final part, which is when I'll give my rating but I have been looking forward to your reaction to this one for so long. A lot of people were spoiled about the Master returning but I stayed away from Trailers so for me it was a complete surprise. This episode is so good from All the banter at the start, through to all the horror in the hospital coupled with the humour between Bill and Razor (the Master) The return of the early classic Cybermen and then that ending. I can't believe I've got to wait a week to see the next part of this reaction.

Was so excited for this episode, genuinely one of the best Doctor Who episodes period in my opinion. One thing I absolutely love about this episode is that they don't shy away from how genuinely horrifying and brutal it is being a Cyberman. I was so excited about seeing your reaction to The Master reveal, the entire ending scene gives me so much chills, from the reveal, to the music, to Bill being a Mondasian Cyberman. I literally cant wait for next weeks episode!

"I waited for you" followed by the single tear just destroyed me when I first watched it. One of the best episodes in New Who and I think that Ian and Jenny have said almost everything about it that I would have done. I do remember hearing that John Simm's Master would be returning in the finale but I still did't recognise him until the reveal! Too engrossed in the story. And it took me until the operating theatre scene to realise that the "patients" were being turned into the original type of Cybermen. The "pain pain" and "kill me" scenes were horrific but I didn't see where they were leading. That is the thing with Moffat at his best. He can show you something that would be quite clear, if you had a few moments to think about it, and then switch to something else that you need to concentrate on so you don't have time to process it. This is definitely not an easy ride and, as some people said at the time, not a very child-friendly story. Which may account for the IMDB rating being "only" 9.1. I would be inclined to give it a 9.9. Glad you are feeling more healthy. You will not need to be upgraded.

This story doesn't put a foot a wrong, imo. From the cold (literally) opening; to the final image - it scares, disorientates, surprises and entertains. The use of flash forwards and flashbacks; the first appearance in the Revived series of the Mondasian Cybermen (a key part of the Classic series); the body horror and creepiness of the central section of the episode; the reveal of the Master; and, perhaps most of all, Moffats' writing of PROPER science-fiction! His use of the the giant spaceship attempting to escape the pull of a black hole, and the understanding of the fact that time would move slower the closer to the event horizon a person would be (although it would appear, to that person, to be moving at the correct speed) is a brilliant and imaginative hook on which to craft a large section of the story. I enjoy the mid-section, btw. It's creepy and ominous, and serves to soften the viewer up for the quick 'one - two' of the surprise twists at the climax. The Master's reveal; the inevitability of Bill's fate; the fact that it reaches right back into Who history to provide us with the Cybermen origin story. When Moffat is on top form, he really comes up with the goods. Forget 'Blink' - THIS is one of my Top 10 stories; and, I believe, a landmark episode in the 60 years of Who. I'm giving it a perfect 10 :) Btw, the 'Genesis of the Cybermen' line really doesn't appear to be anything more than a cheeky nod to the fact that the Dalek-origin story in Classic Who was called 'Genesis of the Daleks'.... which you've seen, if I remember rightly.

I was really excited for this episode, your reaction on the Master reveal was just what I’d hoped for. We who watched this at the time were denied that shock, because the bbc revealed John Simm’s involvement. So sharing with you makes up for that loss a bit. I just think this episode is so clever the way it is put together. The mixture of comedy and horror is fantastic. I’m glad you liked it. Incidentally we have seen these type of Cybermen before in the classic series, but I won’t say more in case it spoils anything.
