Dr. Who Series 8 - Into the Dalek

Don´t worry it´s fine :) I am used to calling him the Capaldi doctor by now :) It doesn´t really influence me, cause I learned it right at the beginning :) It really doesn´t make any difference for me :) By the way, my list would be "David, Peter, Matt", just so you know :D :D And yes I saw what you did there :D Thank you for the link and the info about the references :)

Nicologik

I feel the same about Peter. he´s so good, but I can´t really pinpoint it as to why he makes me feel that way. I just enjoy watching him. Don´t worry I am used to people sharing their opinion a little too early in time by now. I wished that wouldn´t happen but I think that´s not really a possibility on the internet :) . That´s why I look at those comments in a different way now. I don´t let them influence me, instead I developed this thought process of "Everyone has different opinions, some like certain things, other don´t. "It doesn´t really influence my opinion anymore, cause it´s different for anyone. I have to make up my own mind :) But I´m glad that we both really seem to like Peter :)

Nicologik

I cant get over how good Peter is at playing the Doctor. I genuinely couldnt put it into words how glad I am that you love Peters Doctor this much already. For some people it takes a really long time since this Doctor is so different from the past 3 in NuWho. Also I wanted to mention, when Matt first regenerated into Peter, I apologise if I put a bit of pressure for you to like this Doctor. I feel as though I was like "please please please" rather than letting you form an opinion. Either way I'm glad you like him! :)

Haha that´s so true :D

That's the Steven Moffat effect. He lays down so many clues and hints that are hard to spot until much later, that we end up looking for them everywhere.

"This is Clara, not my assistant. She's ... some other word", "I'm his carer". "Yeah, my carer. She cares so I don't have to.", The Doctor and Clara, "Into the Dalek" Sorry, I didn't reply to you quickly enough from last time about your use of the "Peter"-Doctor phrase - I really don't think anyone will worry. My note was only to point out that there were two "Peter"s so perhaps you might need to be obvious about which "Peter"-Doctor you are referring to. But if it is a "Peter Capaldi"-episode everyone will know who you are talking about if you just say "Peter". And certainly no-one will be offended. But, if you ever make a list of your all-time three favorite Doctors - just saying, "David, Matt, and Peter" could certainly confuse people. Of course, using "last name"-Doctor runs into the identical problem - there are two "Baker"-Doctor actors. BTW: I did like your long intro before this episode - there was a lot to work through after the first "Peter"-Doctor story. [Oops - see what I did there.] "Fantastic idea for a movie", The Doctor, "Into the Dalek" So, yes, this is a reference to the 1966 Science-Fiction movie "Fantastic Voyage" about people and a submarine getting shrunk to microscopic size to conduct a delicate surgery on an injured person. It's not a great movie, but it is a classic, big-budget 60s Sci-Fi film. So, when I think of this episode, my overriding memory is that this is "just a rip-off" of that movie idea. Of course the plot in this episode is completely different, it's just the use of the miniaturization idea and some things that follow from that - like people getting attacked by antibodies etc. If you haven't seen it, at one point antibodies attack the one woman in the submarine crew as they're out there swimming around in the blood stream. Here's a movie clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MAwTbdfGJsg But this Doctor Who episode is better that just my memory of the reused plot idea - a bit better. I get pleasantly surprised when I re-watch this one. Nice that you recalled the line from "Dalek" that the 9th Doctor "would make a good Dalek.". And it was good to see some shots from other Dalek stories when we were seeing Rusty's memories. There was a throw-away comment when the Doctor says that morgues are easy to break out of. We've just seen that happen recently - the 8th "Paul" Doctor breaks out of a morgue after his regeneration in the 90s movie. Falling into the protein liquid is a good opportunity for a disgusting landing and a nice dark comment from our new Doctor. "You're not my boss - you're one of my hobbies.", Clara, "Into the Dalek"

Ok interesting, thank you sharing your opinion about that breathing bit. It makes sense the way you say it. Hmmm...maybe I´m really starting to see things that are not there :D

Nicologik

Thank you so much for clarifying. I think I´m so deep into this new era of Dr. Who, I´m starting to see things that aren´t really there :D :D I like that you rank the episode higher now, after watching the reaction :) I was wondering myself, why just the fact that this woman is a soldier, was enough for him not to want her as a companion. But than again, we already have Clara and we do not need another one. So I´m not really unahppy about it.

Nicologik

I suspect that part about her wanting to travel with him and him saying no (and "it's just a pity you're a soldier") was only includes as a contrast to Clara's developing relationship with her soldier boy. Oh and while I'm butting in, Nicole's comment about the Doctor saying something in the restaurant about breathing. He tested the air flow in the restaurant to establish that the other customers were robots. i.e. not breathing. And then later he just wanted to avoid them knowing that he and Clara were people. Because then they would be on the menu! I don't think it was based on any prior knowledge.

Ok just to clear up a couple of question you had at the start, the comment the mystery woman (I'm not sure you noticed she gave her name in the episode?) about the voice is simply because the actress playing her is also Scottish so it's just a line about how they have similar accents. Also I don't think can count as a spoiler because you actually realised it in the last episode at the time but the reason the Doctor says the thing with the clock work androids harvesting body parts is because he's thinking of the events of The Girl in the fireplace. He still doesn't remember when the name Madame de Pomodoro is mentioned but you did. It's separate from the whole face thing but i can see how easy it would be think it was all related. Ok this episode. I had given it 3/5 but after this reaction I've boosted that up to 4/5. It's ranked 106/140 (I may put it a little higher in future) I like the Doctor in this story a bit more than I did the first time I watched it. I can take the dry humour more and it does tell an interesting story with the Dalek. I saw how surprised you were when he didn't save the male soldier, simply making him swallow a tracking device. I didn't like this bit for time round (or even 2nd or 3rd) but now I'm looking at this Doctor in a new light I can see what they were doing with this scene and it does fit with this Doctor. One niggle I have at this point is the whole thing about him not taking Journey with him because she is a soldier. I know the Doctor is not keen on guns and tries to keep soldiers out of the way of shooting everything or getting killed but not to the point he'd refuse one as a companion based simply just on that fact.
