Aria

Time gradually passes as the tournament continues. And both Ruby and Ryan end up getting pretty far before they lose. All the way to about three quarters or so through it.

Of course, if they were higher level, then they’d get much further in the tournament. And if they were at the max level for the junior branch, then I’m sure they would’ve had a high chance of winning.

But they’re less than half the level of the highest level competitors in the junior branch.

That makes it very difficult for them to match up to the top competitors. It’s just not possible.

No matter how strong someone’s ability and skills are, there’s a point where someone is so much higher level than them that they won’t be able to beat them.

It’s kind of like how I can’t really do anything to a Grand other than annoy them.

I may have powerful magic and an immense amount of energy, but they could literally rip me in two with their bare hands thanks to their immensely greater physical strength.

Not that it would do anything since my body would recover immediately. But the point is still there.

Anyway, I’ve seen enough of the tournament by now. So I leave the Eternal Championships to continue exploring.

Of course, I make sure to have the livestream ready to watch the final bracket whenever it comes around. Because I am interested a little in seeing that.

Just a little though. Not enough to see it in person.

After all, I’ve already seen the other Grands fighting in the exhibition bracket.

I’ve even competed against them myself.

So there isn’t much point in me going to see the other top users in the universe in person.

With that in mind, I take off towards my next travel destination with War following me.

“Where are we going this time?” War asks while rubbing his hands together and standing next to my commander’s seat. “Somewhere with arenas and fights and duels, right? Maybe lots of war? Right?”

I wish he’d stop talking. He’s been whispering this crap into my ear ever since I got into my ship and mentioned that I was deciding on my next travel destination.

“War! Battle! Death! War! Fights! Duels! Arenas!” War quietly whisper-chants into my ear.

What’s worse is that the place I was thinking of going actually fits his annoying little chants. It’s some planet that is part of a large empire that’s at war with another empire.

To be specific, the empire they’re fighting is on bad terms with my own nation despite my nation not having the manpower to take their irritation out on them. Meanwhile the world I’m going to belongs to the other empire that actually sent out a request for me to join their conflict as a mercenary.

If I had to guess, the empire on bad terms with my nation didn’t think I’d ever bother with them. Especially since it’s public knowledge that I don’t really interact with my nation very much. And I tend to avoid taking sides in conflicts nowadays.

Thanks to that, it’s been quite a while since I worked as a mercenary, so this will be interesting.

“War! Death! Battle! Fight! Fight! Fight!” War whispers into my ear, making me feel what’s no doubt an imaginary vein throb on my forehead in irritation.

“I’m going to join the conflict between the Gratale Empire and the Rein Empire as a mercenary on the Rein Empire’s side,” I tell him just to shut the guy up.

And immediately after I tell him that, he blinks for a moment before pumping one fist in front of him and quietly exclaiming, “Score!” Which makes me briefly wonder if the guy’s just a kid on the inside or something.

Regardless, I set course for the planet while sending a message to the Rein Empire telling them that I’m accepting their offer to work as a mercenary under them for some years. And they send an instant reply thanking me for the assistance.

But while I’m looking at their reply, I hear War muttering something about joining the war himself. Which has me instantly shutting him down with a simple, “No, you’re not to meddle at all.”

“Petty,” War says with a sudden serious look on his face. “You’re just trying to hog all of the war to yourself, aren’t you?”

I roll my eyes at the child in Horseman’s form.

“I’ll probably be leaving the war before it even ends,” I point out while focusing on the outside of the ship as we get closer to our destination. Only to blink in surprise when I see a fleet of ships outside of the planet fighting another fleet of approaching ships.

Huh. No wonder they asked for my help.

That said, it’s not every day that I see a battle in space like this. One with battleships firing at each other, and various people flying through space clashing with swords, guns, and magic.

Most of them are in mechas too. Large humanoid machines they’re driving themselves to fight.

There are plenty that are just out in space without any mecha though. No doubt the ones strong enough to not need to breathe. Or just ones that can find a way around needing to breathe or can supply oxygen without being on a planet.

I narrow my eyes slightly at the sight of the battle. Only to frown when some of the stray shots head straight at my ship.

It only takes a moment for my top-of-the-line ship to prove just how incredible it is though. Far better than any of their ships.

When the laser shots get anywhere near my ship, they all just kind of vanish. And at the same time, I see the energy levels in my ship rising.

As if the laser shots are being used to power my own ship.

It’s rather interesting to see since I’ve never actually used my ship for combat before.

No one ever attacks after all. Both because my ship is really large, fancy looking, and has my crest on it, and because my ship travels through hyperspace. So most criminals would never find it to be able to attack it in the first place.

I yawn at that thought before pausing for a moment. Then I have my ship head closer to the battlefield while contacting the Rein Empire and telling them that I plan to test my ship’s combat capabilities out in this little battle.

“Now this is going to be good!” War exclaims while rubbing his hands together in anticipation. Clearly excited to see what my ship does to the other ships here.

Of course he’d be excited by this.

I lightly shake my head at that before resting my cheek against the palm of my hand with my elbow on my seat’s armrest. Then I give the order for my ship to enter assault mode.

And when I do, the ship immediately begins to open numerous little entrances all across its surface. With numerous weapons appearing from each entrance.

On top of that, a few hangars open across the ship that I didn’t even know existed. Following which more ships appear from and rush straight into the battlefield as the weapons across my battleship begin to fire.

Interesting…

Of course, my ship quickly begins to tear through the enemy ships with ease. And so do the smaller drone ships.

They don’t do anywhere near as much against the actual enemies that are just floating in space battling, but they easily tear apart the other ships and mechas one by one.

Making for quite a grand sight to see.

Especially since I never really participate in battles that aren’t on a planet.

Maybe I should try exploring space a bit more as well instead of just focusing on planets?

That might make for a nice change of pace.

But for now I should focus on this battle. Just like War is doing, considering the ecstatic grin on his face as he watches the battle.

A grin that is actually slightly creepy.

I’m just going to pretend he doesn’t exist right now.

Yeah, that’s for the best.

I continue watching the battle outside for a bit before deciding to head out and join it myself.

Let’s see how good I am at fighting in space.
