I think they might have already dated. Back when Mike and James were watching the movie, James mentioned he didn’t usually have anyone to go watch artsy films with because most of them weren’t interested and “I can’t see it with Felix for obvious reasons”

Felix clearly doesn't idealize James like some of the others do and keeps him in line when he's being careless but they're clearly close and have a good rapport. That's my favorite type of relationship...
