Dr. Who Reaction Series 7 - Dinosaurs on a Spaceship

I think I remember him from Game of Thrones, but to be honest, I have forgotten almost everything about what happened in it :)

Oh! It didn't occur to me that you'd seen Afterlife. In Game of Thrones he plays a character called Walder Frey who orders a massacre of the Stark family in season three while they are his guests at a feast. Not a nice person but then there aren't many in that programme,

Rupert Graves was in Sherlock? I didn´t recognize his face, and I loved Sherlock. Thanks for letting me know :) I think I do remember David Bradley from "After Life". Although I have seen Harry Potter a while back, "After Life" is much more present on my mind :) You´re right! I didn´t even think about that one. Rorys father must have already seen a TARDIS appear at the weeding. Oh wow that´s quite a big flaw to be honest. I agree, Nefertiti ending up with Riddel doesn´t make any sense at all. I didn´t really feel like the doctor killing Solomon was out of character. He always tries to safe everyone if they deserve it. But for someone so evil like Solomon there is no hope that he will ever stop, so the doctor saw that there was no other way, if he wanted to prevent other people from beeing killed by Solomon. And we already (like you said) have seen many examples of the doctor beeing able to do what "has to be done". Him killing Solomon didn´t surprise me at all.

Thanks for sharing your opinion, I agree :) Now that people have told me about this Chris Chibnall writer I´m really curious what he will come up with in the future. I can´t wait to see, if I will like any of his episodes :D

Thanks for letting me know, that I´m not alone with my opinion about this creepy guy. I´m really glad he´s gone. Amy was great, I´m so happy she is still a present character, even though technically her journey with the doctor has ended already :) Thank you for reassuring that I´m not the only one who thinks this episode is rather pointless :)

Makes sense that the robots were voiced by comedians. I had that impression while watching. I agree about the Ridell character and him ending up with Nefertiti in the end, that doesn´t make sense at all. And the doctor recruiting a hunter as a companion isn´t any better. All in all some really odd choices in this one. I´m glad I´m not alone with my opinion. :) By the way, it might be that I remember David Bradley from Harry Potter, but I don´t think so tbh. However I do 100% know him from the show "After Life". I´ve seen that show last year and it´s a lot more present on my mind than Harry Potter. And I have watched Game of Thrones, but stopped in season 4. So I don´t know if he was already in the show, but again haven´t watched that one for years, so I probably wouldn´t remember anymore. :)

"Quick, how do you start a triceratops?", The Doctor, "Dinosaurs on a Spaceship" This was a light romp with a truely nasty villain and a few funny lines. But I quite like an episode like that sometimes. It was nice to see Rupert Graves as the "Indiana Jones" character - he was in the "Sherlock" TV series of course. And Mark Williams as Rory's father is really good. BTW I was just re-watching the Science Fiction comedy series "Red Dwarf" and was surprised (because I had forgotten) that he played one of the characters in the pilot episode of that. Of course, Mark Williams was also in the Harry Potter films as was David Bradley who played the horrible Solomon in this episode. It was really nice to get Rory's father on a TARDIS adventure even if by accident - a bit like Jackie in "Army of Ghosts". N.B. this means that Rory has now travelled in the TARDIS both with his father and his daughter (River) - three generations of a family in the TARDIS! Oh, I get confused by the events in "The Big Bang" (Universe reboot and that sort of thing) but Rory's father probably should have been at the wedding and therefore probably would have seen the TARDIS appear. Of course I don't fault the production for not including the actor at the wedding - but some dialog covering the issue in this episode might have been nice. I didn't get appalled by the dialog from the characters in this one - we're meant to really dislike Solomon through his actions and words and the script does just that. And in terms of Riddell, the "Indiana Jones" character, well, that's really what some people were like in 1902 and I'm ok that the episode felt able to show that. Of course having said that the Riddell character and his dialog was the product of his time, it's difficult to square that with the very modern-day characterisation of Queen Nefertiti - out-of-place, one imagines, with how a 14th century BC Egyptian would be - albeit a 14th century BC Egyptian Queen. But the thing I didn't really get was that Queen Nefertiti decides to stay with Riddell - I didn't get that at all. And another things that I didn't find great was what the Doctor does to Solomon. Now we really don't like Solomon but deliberately making his ship the target for the missiles seems to be out of character for the Doctor. Or perhaps not - remember Cassandra in "The End of the World". I rate it a bit higher than you - not much - just a bit.

This is the obligatory 'funny' episode - and if it had been written by RTD during his era; or Gareth Roberts (The Lodger; Closing Time),I think this story could have worked. Alas,Chris Chibnall doesn't really do 'funny'; so we're saddled with a script that can only provide (for me,at least,) a few chuckles... which isn't enough. The ending is effective, though. The Doctor can be ruthless when he's motivated enough.

This is my first time re-watching this episode since it first aired and I have to say, I do like this episode more than I remember, It's definitely a fun episode. The part where you were on about how you didn't like how that really creepy guy was being really possessive and weird towards the lady (rightfully so, hes fucking weird). Doctor Who is very political in the sense that it does sometimes touch on subjects like this, another example would be slavery in 'Planet of the Ood' in Series 4. It always has touched political topics ever since the classic era. I do really like Amy in this episode, it always cracks me up when she says how she is a Queen. This isn't my favourite episode but it's a fun one and after comparing every other episode in the show I'd rate it a 5/10. I feel like this episode is extremely skippable and a little pointless so please don't worry about rating it low. It is written by Chris Chibnall after all and his episodes.. well.. lets just say they aren't the greatest in the world to the majority of the Doctor Who Fandom, including me.

I am also conflicted about this episode and wouldn't rate it very highly even though there are some things about it that I really do like. The title for a start, which I think is a parody of the film title "Snakes on a Plane". The actual dinosaurs, which I love seeing - and would like to have seen more of. The silly, rather childish (or camp) robots. They were voiced by two British comedians called David Mitchell and Robert Webb who were in a mad sitcom called Peep Show. They also made several series of a very funny sketch show. Queen Nefertiti who was a great character. Rory's dad, Brian (after he stops being ultra critical of Rory). But I agree that the villain of the story, Solomon, is too extreme for a show that families watch with their children. Although, oddly enough, I am more annoyed about Riddell, the big game hunter, because he is not even meant to be a villain and because Nefertiti actually ends up with him which I don't like and can't believe. Even if he did start to defend her near the end. And why The Doctor would recruit a man who kills wild animals in Africa for sport is completely beyond me. It makes no sense. And his "flirting" with the Queen didn't even strike me as funny. With a different character as part of the "gang" I think the story would have been much better. The episode was written by Chris Chibnall. A man who divides the Doctor Who audience. Quite a lot of people really seem to hate him. I quite like some of his ideas but as you pointed out the execution of the idea has to be equally good. And here, it isn't. I think you said you recognised the man who played Solomon. He was played by David Bradley who was in some of the Harry Potter films and also played a very nasty character in Game of Thrones. I won't name the characters because I can't remember what you have already watched.
