Doctor Who FINALE ! Series 6 :)

Comments

Yeah, Andrew did a great job with recommending the Classic episodes :) I guess you´re right about the CGI models of the pterodactyls, since they looked exactly like the Torchwood one :) Hahah yes the "knitting for girls" magazine was funny :) I don´t know if Amy would have been able to kill Madame Kovarian if she never met the doctor. But I think she would have, if it was for the right reasons. If she had killed a loved one of Amy, for example. I think every companion of the doctor does have this site, it´s burried inside them sometimes, but they are fighters, even if they do not know it, before they meet the doctor. Hahah I have to watch those Confidentials :D I´m gonna go straight to Discord and look them up :)

"Oh, why do you always have handcuffs?", The Doctor, "The Wedding of River Song" My thanks, as well, to Andrew for priming you seeing the 1970s Brigadier before this one. So the Doctor probably lived and had adventures for about two-hundred years after saying goodbye in "The God Complex" and this sequence of episodes "The Wedding of River Song"/"The Impossible Astronaut". Like, the intro bits in "The Impossible Astronaut" e.g. the time when the Doctor got himself into the Laurel and Hardy film that Amy and Rory watched - waving to them out of history books, as Rory put it. Talking about the Stetson hat you liked, the hat that River shoots off the Doctor's head would either have been a Teselecta generated copy of the hat - or perhaps the Teselecta crew arranged to put the real Stetson hat on their generated copy of the Doctor. The second version would be funnier. Oh, I'm pretty sure the pterodactyls do come from Torchwood - well the CGI models anyway. I like the call-backs remembering Rose and Captain Jack. And I like the Doctor reading "Knitting for Girls" - the Doctor mentioned he might be late for a knitting lesson in "The Impossible Astronaut" - so another call-back. "You know, nothing says “I love you” more than a machine-gun.", Arthur Darvill on Amy coming back and saving Rory from the Silence, Doctor Who Confidential, "Doctor Who Confidential". Amy killing Madame Kovarian was not in the first draft of the script. And it's interesting to think about whether Amy would have been able to do that if she had not met the Doctor - because he does alter his companions. In the Confidential, they were talking about acting with the eye-patches and Matt mentioned how weird it was wearing the eye-patch and then having to act flirtatiously with River. In reply, "Matt managed to flirt perfectly well with the eye-patch, so that's all right. And he can carry on as long as he likes!", Alex Kingston, "Doctor Who Confidential". I'll link some videos from the Confidential in the discord. And I'll link another video of interest as well. "So, you and me, we should get a drink sometime.", "Ok", Amy and Rory, "The Wedding of River Song"

Nicholas Courtney (the actor) dying was quite an emotional event for long-term watchers of Who so I am very glad that they acknowledged it in the show itself, even if it did seem a bit clunky in the context of the plot. I did keep thinking during your intro "I wonder where you can buy a tie like that?"

Haha well I guess it´s all my fault for asking :D :D

Hmm your theorie would make sense. Thanks for sharing it with me :) Oh wow your 2-parter theory is mind blowing. You could be right about that one as well. And this would be a masterpiece if it was true. I love it :)

I´m sorry you don´t like the episode. But I get where you´re coming from. The scene I had a similar feeling to what you are describing was the one with the brigadier phone call. It still doesn´t make sense to me, how getting those news could have such a big impact on the doctor, even if it´s sad news. But changing his perception from wanting to fight for his life, to giving up completely just doesn´t make sense to me.

Nicologik

Thank you for letting me know your thoughts about the Brigadier scene. I interpreted it in a similar way, but still it doesn´t really make sense to me. The doctor has wittnessed so many death of people he once knew, I just don´t think the impact of that call would have been so "life changing" for him. But I´m sad that the real life actor has passed away. I liked him in those Classic episodes. I had the same thoughts about the doctors body, maybe I didn´t explain it good enough, but I was thinking exactly the same about his body beeing used for experiments.

I agree that a cutted reaction on Youtube might spoil the "fun" of this episode. It lives off the drama, music and glueing the viewer to the screen. All that gets taken away if you have to cut the episode into little pieces. That´s why I always watch my favorite Buffy reactors on Patreon, not on Youtube. It takes away the fun for me to watch cut episodes. The wedding scene is soooo beautiful and sad if it is seen in the proper context, I agree 100%. I still get teary eyes just thinking about it. Thanks for clarifying the Ceaser part as I didn´t get that one right, and have´t edited the episode yet. :) I still got a little throatache while doing the Good Omens reaction, well I still have it today. I guess it´ll take a while to get rid of it completely. :/ I´m so exited for the Christmas special, I hope there will be a family like Christmas celebration with lots of funny scenes around the Christmas tree, with the whole gang :)

Nicologik

Awww thanks for the compliment about my outfit. :) I love it as well, but I´m way too lazy to iron :D :D I´m sorry you didn´t like the season as much as I did, because I really enjoyed it. But I get where you´re coming from. So the Brigadier scene didn´t have a real reason in the story? It was added because of the real life death of the actor? Because while watching it, I didn´t really understand that scene. It made not much sense to me, that the doctor changed his opinion because of that call.

Nicologik

I agree it´s my favorite series up until this point in the show :)

you asked to get your brain fried ;D

I have a theory. In this episode, the Doctor tells River twice that she is “forgiven, always and completely forgiven.” I think this is what the Doctor whispered in Melody Pond’s ear when he was dying in “Let’s Kill Hitler.” This is why Melody stopped being a psychopathic killer and saved his life: she was so deeply moved that the Doctor forgave her for what she compelled to do by Mm. Korvarian and the Silents. I have another theory. Season 6 began with a 2-parter and ended on a single episode because Season 6 is all about River Song whose timeline is “back to front” with the Doctor’s timeline. Season 6, therefore, was also “back to front.”

I'm not a fan of this episode, I'm afraid. Although it wraps up most of the ongoing arc, and has a number of interesting ideas and fun moments, the storytelling doesn't work for me. I'm not sure if I'd describe it as feeling rushed, but perhaps it actually was because it does feel a bit like Steven Moffat had to suddenly finish his school essay late at night before handing it in to the teacher the following morning.

I think I like series 5 more but this one is still great. This episode is a 4/5 for me and ranked 56/140. and of course as much as it answers the question of how the Doctor is able to survive it sets up load more questions. I think the Doctor changed his mind after learning about the Brig's death because he thought he could always out run time but realised in the end he couldn't. Hence his boost about how time has never laid a glove on him just before he finds out. It's kind of a bittersweet scene as the actor who played the Brig had passed away earlier in the year. With regards to the Doctor's body, it's not about his energy or that people will sense him. It's that people would want to get their hands on his body. Think along the lines of him being dissected to learn the secrets of regeneration, that kind of thing. Finally, yeah I think the German title works better.

It's been quite a while since I've watched this episode properly, all the way through and I had forgotten just how good it is. I have watched so many heavily edited reactions on YouTube that it never seems as epic, clever or emotional as it does in full. I do remember being a bit disappointed by the Teselector ruse that gets the Doctor out of really being killed. I didn't want him to die, obviously but the way he escaped seemed slightly anti-climactic to me. Loved pretty much everything else though. The actual wedding scene is much sadder and more beautiful when it is seen in its proper context. And I definitely agree that "Wedding Song" is a much better title. Cleverer and not so spoiler-y. I think that Churchill was the one being called "Caesar" in the early scenes. He calls The Doctor "Soothsayer". Meaning a mystic who predicts the future. Sorry if you knew that perfectly well already. Rory bravely defending everyone is great but Rory saying "yeah, ok" to everything no matter how baffling is even better. And Amy suddenly realising that she is The Doctor's mother-in-law is hilarious. I hope you will be feeling better soon and that you didn't have to do the Good Omens reaction still feeling ill. I will be very interested to see what you make of the Christmas Special!

First off (and most importantly) - please wear that outfit for every reaction. Ok? Next - this series Finale. The annoying thing is...it could have been so good. The solution of the whole 'does the Doctor die' riddle is genuinely clever; and the viewer realizes that the answer was in plain sight all the way back in the Hitler episode. It's by far the best part, imo,of this episode. But why...why... does Moffat insist on adding additional complexities to everything?? I rewatched this episode immediately after it was broadcast, and instead of noticing things I'd missed (which is what I'd hoped would happen),I noticed more things I didn't like! It's very frustrating - which probably explains it's IMDB rating. (The reference to the Brigadier dying was probably added fairly late in the day; as the actor had recently passed away.) For me,Season Six is a season of two halves. The first (generally) carries the 'Doctor dying' story arc; the second (generally) being a collection of self-contained stories. In retrospect, the second half works better for me. The overly convoluted resolution to the 'dying' arc lessens the first halfs effectiveness somehow. Season-long arcs can be a bit of a gamble,if you ask me. This one could have paid off nicely; but,alas....not really.

As confusing as this episode can be, I actually really love this one. Series 6 is definitely up there as one of my favourite series'!
