Dr. Who Reaction Series 6 - Let´s kill Hitler

One reveal after the other. WHAT A SHOW !!!

Dr. Who Reaction Series 6 - Let´s kill Hitler

Comments

Yes I loved the crop circle joke :D Oohhhhh thanks for reminding me about the banana joke in "The doctor dances". I totally forgot that he did this before. :D I agree the extractor fans joke was really well done :) Thank you so much fot the link to the prequel scene. I haven´t even thought about that, at all. I mean, every single time I talked about Amy getting Melody back I was like" If she doesn´t find her, it´s not too bad, because she knows she´ll be ok". But I didn´t even think about the missing years and how much it would hurt Amy. This gave me a totally new perspective on the whole topic. Thank you :)

"Does anybody else find this day just a bit difficult?", Rory, "Let's Kill Hitler" The crop circle construction was good fun. Not a fan of the Doctor's funny rules list. And although the sonic cane looks pretty classy - it's a throw-away idea but it makes me wonder why we've never seen such a thing before - perhaps it's only when he dresses formally. I like the callback to the Doctor switching the gun with a banana as he did with Captain Jack in "The Doctor Dances". I also liked it when they cycle through the previous New Who companions - each one producing whimpers of guilt. The impact of their apparances is slightly reduced for me by the fact that the companion images look like they are TV series publicity photos (which is what they were). It's funny that the TARDIS has extractor fans to get rid of the smoke - but it seems to surprise the Doctor that it does. That's the type of throw-away item joke I like. River mentions that the TARDIS instructed her how to pilot the TARDIS - filling in some more detail after we had seen her expertly pilot it in "The Time of Angels". And, of course, the introduction of River's diary was good closure. BTW: there was a prequel scene to this episode https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HRqG64hDs4s "I like her. I mean she's creating chaos but I do like her.", Nicole about Mels.

Thank you for your kind words. It helps so much to read comments like yours to forget tose bad comments. :) I always try to ignore them, but they do get to me. That´s why I have to speak about it from time to time. It helps with the forgetting part as well :) I´m sorry for the reactors who get even worse comments. I don´t understand why people are so mean, to other people who only try their best to entertain them.... Thank you for the Amy recap, it was really good to check if I´m on the right track :) :) Wow 86 is really far behind other episodes. I really enjoyed the episode, but then again, I didn´t have to wait six months to watch it, maybe this made a difference as well. but I did enjoy how they made fun about the Nazis :)

Nicologik

Thank you for your nice words, about beeing able to enjoy this episode together with me :) The humor isn´t a problem for me, because in general I do like black humor very much. So this was just superfun to watch :D Thanks for the info about the mini :) I love the throwbacks to the Classic episodes, even if most of the time I do not understand them. But thanks to all the Patreons I do get them sooner or later :D

Nicologik

I guess most of them wouldn´t be able to say a word in German I suppose. :/ Thank you so so much, it means a lot to me hearing or reading those words, truely :) How can someone not be a River fan? Just kiddin... :D I didn´t really like her at the start (library episode) but she grew on me over time, and now I really like her. Ohhhhhh ok, your last sentence makes me think..... I hope I didn´t miss something really important.....Well see I guess :D

Nicologik

Hi Samantha, I´m glad you joined the commenting folks :) And also thank you so so much for your kind words, it means a lot to me, to read those positive comments :) And I´m so glad you´re enjoying the reactions :) I know what you mean, by saying some people forgot how it was for them watching the show for the first time. Sometimes I have to remind myself that the Buffy reactors I do watch, haven´t seen the episodes a million times already :D :D But I would never ever right something mean to someone who misses a fact or a scene. I´d rather explain it to them in a nice way :) Awwww those last words in your comment....I´m speechless.....Thank you SOOOOO much really, from the bottom of my heart. You have no idea how much that means to me :)

Nicologik

Learned a new word here "smug", didn´t know that before thanks :)

Nicologik

What there are people who don´t like River? Wow ok... I never thought that was a possibility.

Nicologik

That´s so true. :)

Nicologik

Thank you so much for your kind words, really :) That helps me seeing more of the positive side :) Haha yes I enjoyed that scene so much, of River discovering her new body. :) And Rory punching Hitler felt like the icing on a birthday cake :D :D Everytime I try to think about the whole situation my mind is overwhelmed immediately. Rory and Amy knowing her daughter before they even started dating in the first place. That´s just wonderful story writing. :)

Nicologik

I do, but sometimes it just gets to me and I have to talk about it :)

Nicologik

Firstly about the hatful comments. I'm sorry you experienced that. Unfortunately I've seen it before with other reactors & even worse. Just remember there are far more people who love watching your reactions, so try to ignore the bad ones. Also keep in mind you are watching a story one time while reacting. No one should be expected to pick everything up first time and we certainly don't want to watch a reactor who would just sit there concentrating and saying nothing. You seem to have a good grasp on things but if this is helpful a little bit of timeline leading up to River. So Amy gives birth to Melody at Demons run and the baby is taken to Earth and raised in an orphanage which we saw in the two parter of this series. She grows up to be the little blond girl from that story who regenerated at the end. She became a toddler and then somehow found her way to England and grew up with Amy & Rory as we saw here. As for the Silence. Well you have a very good understanding of them so really no need for further explanation. So this story. On first viewing I rated it average and its ranked 86/140. I think it just felt a bit of a let down after the last episode and a six month wait to have a more comedic episode. That said I really enjoyed this reaction, maybe it's time to re-access this one. It was really interesting seeing it from a German's viewpoint as well.

I've always felt that this episode works much better once you know what the tone and content will be, and yet it clearly all worked really well for you on first watching! Which was a delight to see. And I was uncertain how you'd respond to the combination of Nazi Germany and comedy, so I'm glad it was something you were able to respond to as intended (although it would've been fine if you'd responded differently). I actually enjoyed rewatching this alongside your reaction more, and perhaps appreciated it more, than when I've seen it before by myself. The car at the beginning was an old Mini, a classic British design from the 1960s. It's considered an icon, and has appeared in a lot of films. There's an in-joke about the classic era early on in this episode. When we see the damage inside the Tardis, because Mels has shot it, there's a line where she points out that the Doctor had claimed it was impossible to fire a gun inside because the Tardis is in a state of "temporal grace". The joke is that there are classic stories that appear to contradict each other about whether bad actions such as firing a gun are possible or impossible inside the Tardis due to it (supposedly) being in a state of temporal grace. Moffat loves throwing in in-jokes for (or sometimes about) the fans in his stories.

Because she's so damn smug! :D (I'm in a minority. I understand that)

I'd be tempted to ask the critical YT commenters: "and how good are your German language skills, may I ask?". As Samantha above has pointed out, this TV series (particularly in the Moffat era!) throws so much at the viewer, ANYONE can misunderstand something - let alone someone for whom English is a second language. You're doing really well, believe me! Speaking of throwing so much stuff at the viewer...this particular episode is a case in point. At the risk of sounding like a perpetual complainer, this episode doesn't do much for me (not a fan of River, myself). However, it does one particular thing VERY well indeed. ....unfortunately,I can't tell you what that is yet. :(

Ian Smith

Hey Nicole, I haven't commented before but after hearing you talk about the bad comments I just wanted to say how much I really enjoy and look forward your reactions each week! Doctor Who is a show that throws so much information at its viewers (part of the reason we all love it so much I think!) and it's impossible to pick up every single thing that comes our way. Let's be honest, it's absolutely bonkers at times! Unfortunately I think some people forget what it was like for them on a first watch once they have the benefit of watching future episodes. This show is a lot of wonderful things but one big theme is obviously kindness and it's really sad to think that people who are part of the community find the need to make hurtful comments. These people certainly would NOT be asked to be companions if the Doctor came calling haha! It speaks so much to your character that you are the one apologising to them but you should know you have absolutely nothing to apologise for. You do a fantastic job and are a wonderful human being (with absolutely AMAZINGGGG English btw) so a big thumbs down to them and a big thumbs up for you. Keep doing what you are doing and never change xxxx

Samantha H

There are people who disliked the episode and believe it or not there are people who dislike River Song! Like hooowww???'

Elvira Heredia

Is never good to hide the past. otherwise history tends to repeat itself. We should just learn from it. Most of us know those symbols don´t represent all of Germany.

Elvira Heredia

I just looked at a stupid comment under your "Day of the Moon" YouTube reaction and it looks like some people just aren't happy unless they are finding fault. Even reacting to a programme which is in a foreign language you still manage to pick up on many things that native English speakers miss. I really like this episode although I enjoy the previous one more because of its epic nature and the HUGE reveal at the end. I'd still give this one a 9.00 though. The newly regenerated River is wonderful even though she is a (kind of) villain to begin with. Her delight at her new body makes me laugh every time. So does Rory punching Hitler and locking him in a cupboard I have to say. And the idea of "Mels" somehow crossing the Atlantic and seeking out the young Amy and Rory so she can also eventually meet the Doctor is a mind-boggler. They thought they had lost her but they knew her throughout most of her childhood. I do sometimes wonder wonder where she lived or how she enrolled at the school though!

you should just delete the mean comments and if possible block them.
