I know I'm mega late here, I only recently found Nicole and trying to binge my way through her reactions. The character that Jack would have replaced is Dorium Maldovar. The idea was that Jack is the one who would try to talk down the monks, and end up headless. This was going to be death of Jack and the birth of the face of boe.

However as he was unavailable another character was created, although I can't remember if it was Strax, the Sontaran or Madam Vastra, the Silurian. If Jack had been in it one of those wouldn't have been there and I think they are great characters so I'm glad.

This trio is the best :) It´s so fascinating how many dialogue lines are only understandable if you watch them , after having watched the whole series. This is definately a show that you have to watch more than one time. :) I understand that you dislike the doctor humiliating others. I don´t know what to think of this behaviour yet. On the one hand I am afraid of him, and on the other hand it fascinates me so much, and would want to see him turn completely bad one day. :) Thank you for the link. I din´t read to much of those comments, because I´m afraid of spoilers though :) I would have loved to finale see an Ood beeing free and doing what it wants to do. Damnit. But then again, they are peaceful beeings, and I think it would go against their character to fight, even if it´s for the good. Me not beeing spoiled is totally due to the work of Andrew (the other Andrew) :D He gives me the chance to enjoy this show totally spoiler free. I´m so thankful for that :) Puddle song :D :D What an idea :D :D I´m glad it´s river though :D

I enjoyed it as well :) I don´t know why, but I do have the feeling Captain Jack wouldn´t have fit in the episode, I´m kinda glad he wasn´t in it. Although we maybe missed out on many funny oneliners :D :D

Because if you start without knowing where you want to end up, the danger of inconsistencies will grow. If you add new pieces without remembering every single detail it can go wrong in a heartbeat. I would love to talk to Steven Moffat. I have so many questions :D :D I´m so sorry you did see the plot twist coming. That´s a pity. I now know what you meant when you wrote the other comment about me trying to guess future happenings. But you did have that WOW moment, just earlier than everyone else, so it wasn´t really wasted :) :) I´d love to watch those zigzagg videos, as soon as I´m able to :) Must have been a lot of work for those people to put all those timelines together. :) No, I can´t imagine having to wait 6 months for the next episode. That´s torture :D I´m so glad I don´t have to wait. Must have been terrible, I fell very sorry for you :)

I like the segments showing the gathering of the Doctor's team. “Would you like me to repeat the question?”, Rory, “A Good Man Goes to War” And Rory is great in confronting the Cybermen! The battle could be a callback to “Forest of the Dead” where River mentioned that the Doctor can make whole armies turn and run away. Ok, I don't like the “Colonel Runaway” stuff - even though, I suppose, it's could be another reference to the “Forest of the Dead” quote. I realise the Doctor is really angry, but it's really not nice to humiliate anyone. I don't mind the Doctor being angry or obstinate. I don't like him being cruel. The episode loses rating points from me for this. The idea that we get our word “doctor” from the Doctor is quite clever. And, as you would expect it was invented by Steven Moffat. Interestingly, Moffat mentioned his idea in a Usenet forum post in 1995 (in the time between Classic Who and New Who) long before he was writing New Who episodes. https://groups.google.com/g/rec.arts.drwho/c/fNc0-Zpirpg/m/8cy_h19aEx0J Good spotting that Dorium was the dealer who gave the vortex manipulator to River in “The Pandorica Opens” - being blue helped, I guess :) A minor corection: the vortex manipulator came from a Time Agent (the wrist was still attached). A very obscure piece of trivia is that RTD is credited at the end of the show with creating the Ood and the Judoon - but the Ood are not in the episode. An Ood was planned to be part of the Doctor's team, but the scenes were cut out. The big character reveal at the end: I'm really happy you managed to remain unspoiled for it. Unfortunately, Jess (sesskasays) was deliberately spoiled by someone before her reaction to this story :( Someone made a funny point in one of the forums at the time which has stuck in my mind. If a forest has a river it probably has rain and therefore probably has puddles. We could be talking about a character called Puddle Song. “Oh, are you boys dressing up as Romans now? I thought nobody read my memos.”, River Song, “A Good Man Goes to War”

(which means you've reacted to half of my top ten now) Right from the scene with Rory and the cybermen at the start to the revelation at the end. Fun fact. Originally it was planned for Captain Jack to be in this episode but he couldn't due to filming conflicts.

This one,on the other hand,is all about the final revelation - which is excellent and makes for a truly brilliant cliffhanger; but the rest? It's extravagant CGI and pointless running about, essentially filling 30 minutes or so with 'significant' (we're led to believe) stuff,until Moffat can do the Big Reveal in the last 10 minutes. Those 10 minutes are great,though.

2023-04-09 10:16:35 +0000 UTCYes, but did you enjoy the pirates?. Or at least the (ex) pirate captain and his son. It is so clever how Steven Moffat almost spells out what is going to happen but then throws in another dramatic scene so you don't have time to absorb what you have just seen and heard. I don't think he knew who River was going to be when he wrote the library episodes though. Only that she was going to be somebody very important to The Doctor. Anyway, I almost never see his plot twists coming but in this case I did and I really wish I hadn't. When Lorna (the lady from the Gamma Forests) tells Amy that she has translated her daughter's name (into the language of my people) something clicked in my brain and I remembered what the Tardis lady told Rory. The only water in the forest is the river. I shouted Oh my god! out loud and then had to tell everyone else in the room to ignore me and stop asking why I was so shocked. I wrote the words River Song = Melody Pond on some paper and kept it until the end. This is not a boast btw. It was just dumb luck and I would much rather have been as stunned as everyone else. River and the Doctor both travel through time and meet each other in the "wrong" order. It is almost (but not entirely) back to front. There is a bit of zigzagging I think. There are also Youtube videos that show you the right order from River's point of view but it's not a good idea to watch them for a long time yet! Can you imagine seeing that ending and then having to wait six months for the next episode? Don't you feel sorry for us?
