Two episodes, two doctors.... two happy endings?

Dr. Who Reaction Series 6 - The Rebel Flesh

Comments

I know what you mean. The episode feels a bit strange. But then again, I´ve had this feeling with many Dr. Who episodes :D :D It´s a really strange show (in the best way possible) :D Oh it´s the same guy that wrote "Fear her".....My most favorite episode of all time :D :D :D Yes, you´re right about "those humans", it´s always them starting a war. Sometimes Dr. Who is just too real.

"Oh ... What are you doing down there?", The Doctor to the TARDIS, "The Rebel Flesh" The story has a strange feeling to it. Perhaps it's just the production design style with the dark, dank monastery with the orange and brown uniforms and also the creepy Ganger faces. I don't know what it is. It's also a bit weird that an acid-mining factory is located at the site of an old monastery at all. The story does start off slowly even if the opening sequence (where Buzzer falls into the acid and the other workers don't care) really grabs the viewer because you don't know what's happening. The writer of this story was a co-creator of the "Life on Mars" series that has been recommended to you several times. Of course he also wrote "Fear Her" in Doctor Who Series 2 - so there you go. "I've got to get to that cockerel before all hell breaks loose! I never thought I'd have to say that again.", The Doctor, "The Rebel Flesh" I'm a sucker for these Doctor throw-away lines. Once again, the Doctor tries to get two groups to settle their issues peacefully only for a human to kill one of the other side (see "Cold Blood" from last season). It's always the human, isn't it? "Yes, it's insane. And it's about to get more insanerer.", The Doctor, "The Rebel Flesh"

Amy is almost always the leader in their relationship and Rory is the follower. And I think he is fine with that in general. So meeting a woman who needs his protection is a bit of a new experience. No wonder he is confused about how he feels.

I know what you mean, i enjoyed the story as well. I just had the feeling it was a little too slow at the beginning. But the overall theme is really intriguing. Haha yes the accents :D I´m glad I´m not the only one having troubles. :D That one man was only speaking in riddles for me. I hope he wont get any important dialogue in the next episode :D :D

Thank you for letting me know your thoughts about this episode. The CGI looked ok for me, too. Except for that one scene in the bathroom. That looked really fake, and funny at the same time. Which took away from the seriousness of the whole scene. But I didn´t mention it, because all in all it wasn´t too important for me. Oh you are right. Thank you for telling me about Rory. I really questioned his behaviour and why Rory is so overprotective all of the sudden. But that explanation makes sense. :) What I don´t understand though, is why he did behave so strange, when it comes to Amy. But maybe I´ll find out with the next episode :)

Haha, I totally agree :D :D

I say you should watch the next one... to hell with schedule! ;D

I'm more with your rating than the IMDB reviewers. It's a good story with some intriguing implications. Similar to the ones in Bladerunner. Not the first time Doctor Who has explored these issues of artificial intelligence and memories but a good one all the same. I understand that some people criticised the CG effects for this episode but they looked fine to me. Maybe I just get caught up in the story. I guess Rory knows what it is like to be a plastic avatar with all the memories and character traits of the original person. So that would help him sympathise/empathise with Jennifer. Also, he is a nurse so he is inclined (and trained) to try to help people who need it.

This is (yet another!) episode where popular opinion doesn't always correspond to mine. Fandom generally feels a little cool toward this story - but I really enjoy it. A neat concept; a base under siege; a small cast of characters, all trying to survive; the Doctor being properly doctorish; a dark and stormy night. The only downsides for me are some of the accents (many UK accents can be quite difficult to understand, even to people from the UK); and the surprise cliffhanger - which can be seen coming from quite a way off. Looking forward to your reaction to the next part :)
