0.00.20 you can see a twister in the Universal Pictures logo 003.14 although you don't see his face the munchkin who says "Look it's Glinda" is played by Tarik Frimpong who played The Scarecrow in UK's TheWiz revival 0.05.07 Glinda shakes hands with a Munchkin who is played by Summer Strallen a well known West End actor and daughter to Cherida Stallen 0.12.23 "What?" was an ad lib from Ariana 0.14.06 Alice Fearn (who plays Galinda's mother) played Elphaba in London's West End 0.56.25 Cherida Stallen plays the Librarian she's a well know dancer and is mother to the Munchkin Glinda greets during "No One Mourns the Wicked". One of her other daughters plays Glinda now at West End in London 1.23.15 Ariana didn't fall off the banister during rehearsals or while film was rolling, she did however when goofing around on set. 1.25.57 the ending of "Popular" was decided because they loved the hallway so much and they came up with the dance. Ariana did it in one take the day after getting over Covid. They saw Ariana messing around and do that high kick and said well that has to be in there. 1.47.19 Jon Chu let Cynthia and Ariana ad lib the whole Glinda getting on the train scene. 1.52.00 the woman saying, "He can read it..." is Winnie Holzman who wrote the Broadway book for Wicked and co-wrote the screenplay for the two films 1.53.47 the guard saying, "The Wizard will see you now" is Stephen Schwartz the composer and lyricist for Wicked. Fun fact he also co-wrote the songs for Disney's Enchanted 1.56.55 Ariana Grande ad libbed "A man" 1.57.32 Cynthia and Ariana said Jeff Goldblum was doing magic all the time on set. If you look closely you can see Cynthia holding a rope from one of Jeff's magic tricks. 2.15.04 Ariana Grande ad libbed "Give me my leg" it was one of the few times Cynthia Erivo broke character and laughed and told Jon Chu to put it in. 2.24.54 the wink was an ad lib from Cynthia

2025-09-26 13:48:12 +0000 UTC0:17 you can hear yellowing, water splashing on Elphaba, and running footsteps 2:16, you can briefly hear the score to the song “Ding Dong the Witch is Dead” from The Wizard of Oz 3:25 Glinda’s mode of transportation is exciting. In the 1929 film, Glinda travels by bubble. In the original Baum books, Glinda traveled by chariot. So I like that they combined the two in this movie. Fun fact. Baum loosely based Glinda on his mother-in-law, Matilda Joslyn Gage. She was a suffragette, she fought for racial equality, and she was a writer. 7:28 In the original Oz and Wicked books, the shoes were silver. It was changed to red in the 1939 film for Technicolor. But notice there are little tornadoes all over the shoes. 9:12 I love that Elphaba’s line was like “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz” because that’s the original full title of Baum’s first Oz book 13:50 The architecture of the school is pretty spot on. In the wicked book, the school is described as being surrounded by a lake and having water go through the school. 14:26 Pay attention to Boq’s movement with that stick; it’s foreshadowing for his character in part 2 19:43 I love that one of the professors was named Professor Mombi. In the Baum books, there was another witch named Mombi. 21:17 In the book, Glinda’s nanny, Anna Clutch, goes to Shiz University with her. The character didn’t make it into the musical. I love that they added her name, “Anna Clutch,” in the list of student names. Also, the university is called Shiz University because it’s in the city of Shiz 21:34, It’s an interesting commentary that we see original architecture and art of animals who might have created the school. But when the wizard took over, he not only oppressed animals, silencing them, but also started to erase their history. Dr. Dillamond hinted at it later in his lesson that he doesn’t want animal history to be taught at all in school. He later brought in that propaganda professor after Dr. Dillamond was forcefully taken away. 22:35 “Just a slight gulch.” Another fun easter egg. Ms. Gulch was the name of the neighbor who took Toto the dog (Margaret Hamilton played her and the witch). In the movie, they split Madam Morrible’s dialogue up into 2 characters. Ms. Coddle has all of the over-the-top moments, while Madam Morrible focuses on Elphaba. 30:48 On the statue’s cheek, you can see the celebration from No One Mourns the Wicked. It is a celebration for Elphaba, but she doesn’t know they’re celebrating her “death” 31:53 “Somewhere over the rainbow blue birds fly” are some of the lyrics to that iconic song, and in this scene, we see blue birds flying beyond a rainbow. “If happy little bluebirds fly beyond the rainbow, why oh why can’t I?” 32:18 You can faintly hear the score to the song “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” 45:26 I love that Madam Morrible’s white wig looks like a bunch of clouds, since she can control the weather 47:41 I love what they did with this song. In the musical, Dr. Dillamond sings it to just Elphaba. All of the animals gathering and singing together gives it more weight. The added visuals are great too, and this movie got it right, how they’re all animals and not anthropomorphic like in the 1939 film. 45:53 in the background, they perfectly recreated the map of Oz that was in the original Baum books. The Emerald City is in the center. Shiz University is in Giligan in the North. Munchkinland is in the East, Quadling Country is in the South, and Winkie Country (where Fiyero is from) is in the West. In The Wizard of Oz book, there were 4 witches, one for each country. Glinda was originally the Witch of the South. She was very powerful and had her own army. That changed in the 1939 film and the musical. 51:24 “No thanks, get stuffed” is a foreshadowing line 1:49:44 This segment was clever. Not only did it give wonderful cameos for Idina and Kristin, but it also gives more backstory for the prophecy and the Grimmery, which we didn’t get in the musical. 1:51:40 Those short green creatures with the round bellies are called QUadlings from the South of Oz 1:51:55 It’s hilarious that the Wizard makes “Omaha” sound like a magical word. The Wizard is originally from Omaha, Nebraska. 1:52:01, the woman saying “he can read it, he must be a wizard” is Whinnie Holtzman. She not only wrote the script for Wicked on Broadway, but also the scripts for these two films. 1:53:53 The mustache man who says “The Wizard will see you now” is the only and only Stephen Schwartz, who wrote the music for the Broadway musical 2:19:41, the poster in the background has the name Oscar Diggs on it. That’s the Wizard’s real name
