2025-08-25 21:49:40 +0000 UTC— The cast and crew often worked up to 16-hour days, with filming for songs happening in recording studios while other scenes were being shot. — Scenes were not shot in chronological order; instead, different parts of the episode, or even different episodes, were filmed simultaneously. — The line, "My weave!" was an ad-lib by Amber Riley, who played Mercedes. — The planned mash-up of "I Could Have Danced All Night" and "Thong Song" was initially planned for this episode but was scrapped. — This was the first episode where a character sang two solos. — This is the second competition to feature real celebrities as judges, the first time was in Journey (01x22). — This episode contains Glee's 400th musical number, which is “Paradise By the Dashboard Lights”. — Two versions of the victory scene were filmed. Vocal Adrenaline's win was filmed first but they didn't get confetti, whereas New Directions did get confetti. — In this episode Vocal Adrenaline sing more than one song for the first time. — During this episode, a few new things were introduced, specifically awards that are mentioned to be given out every year but has been only seen in this episode such as: 1. Will's Teacher of the Year award that Finn mentioned before their performance at Nationals. He said Figgins gives it out every year, but this is the first time it's heard and seen on Glee but in the directors cut of the Pilot (01x01), you can see a photo of Will accepting it from Figgins in the copy of the yearbook Emma is looking at (a copy of that photo also hangs on the back bulletin board in Will's office). 2. Rachel mentioned a Nationals MVP award given out every year, which in the year 2012, was awarded to Unique Adams. — This is the first time New Directions performs first in a competition. — The yearbook that Rachel signed at the end is available in published form in bookstores everywhere. — In theory three female performers from New Directions should have had impaired singing and/or dancing abilities, but this didn't happen. Mercedes was still ill with food poisoning - it had just been repressed by Sue's remedies. Tina suffered a concussion in the previous episode, just days before Nationals, and Quinn had just learned to walk again after having been hit by a truck in On My Way (03x14). — The photo of Will on his award plaque is the yearbook photo seen in Mattress (01x12). — The songs from this episode and Props concluded the First Listen Fridays for Glee, which was an event where the songs from an upcoming episode were released each Friday for fans to hear for the first time. — A copy of the programme from the 2011 Midwest Regionals hangs in Will's office. — In Latin America, the scene where Santana and Brittany kiss, is cut in the dubbed version of the episode, only in the TV version. In ClaroVideo Latin America, you can see the full episode in the dubbed version. — This is the last episode that Brittany, Mike, Quinn, and Santana sing for the rest of the season. — This is the first episode from a season that doesn't have a competition in a season finale. The next episode is City of Angels (05x11). — The dedication and remarks that Finn says in this episode are heard in the fifth season episode New Directions (05x13) as Will finally says goodbye to the now disbanded club. — This is the only Nationals episode where the title doesn't refer to the city where the competition is held. It is also the only Nationals episode where New Directions don't sing a song related to the city where the competition is held. In 02x22, they sang a mash up of “I Love New York” and “New York, New York”. In 05x11, they sing “I Love LA”. — It can be assumed that Emma made her own way to Chicago as she was not seen on or boarding the bus to National with the others. MISTAKES: * After the show circle cheer Mercedes’ dress straps come unloose and you can see her grabbing and fixing them before the scene cuts. * During the scene with the Unholy Trinity (Santana, Brittney, and Quinn) as Santana walks away you can hear one of them say "I love you guys" or something similar to it. However, none of their lips were actually moving. * After New Directions finishes their performance, Mercedes' dress straps are undone again and tucked in, which means they probably kept coming undone so she just settled for a strapless dress look. * After the announcement who won Nationals, Santana was hugging Artie but in the next shot she was with Quinn and Mercedes. * The previous episode, Props, shows the New Directions setlist, and includes Quinn and Tina singing Edge of Glory beforehand, and not because Mercedes had food poisoning. * After the announcement of who won Nationals, we see the same clip of Quinn lifting Santana up twice. Almost immediately after the announcement, and then after Rachel's and Mr Shue's hug. * When the teacher of the year award is being announced, Mr. Schuester appears to have a small lipstick smudge on his cheek. After that, while hugging each glee member, Quinn who is wearing red lipstick, kisses him on the cheek. This probably means the scene where the award is announced was filmed after the New Directions performed We Are The Champions. * When The New Directions arrive back at McKinley, Emma shows Will a newspaper with a picture of Will holding the Nationals trophy in the choir room. However, this is impossible, considering the New Directions hadn't been back to McKinley or the choir room until the scene after and Will is wearing the same outfit in the photo as he is in this scene. * The Troubletones have 7 members: Mercedes, Brittany, Santana, Sugar and three extra girls. If nobody joins New Directions, how did Shelby get 3 extras in her group? The same can apply to West Side Story; who played all the Shark Girls? However, there are probably theatre and regular choir students who auditioned for the musical, and also the Troubletones. Also, since the three backups in the Troubletones are cheerleaders, and Santana is their captain, she might have recruited them. These extra three Troubletones are not seen or heard from again after Nationals, and it is not explained whether they have graduated or chosen not to join the glee club for the following year, despite having just won a national championship. In season 1, Sandy had previously run the Glee club. A few seasons later, he mentions that Vocal Adrenalines weakness is that they can't do a funk number, suggesting that their Glee club had gone up against them, or performed in competetions. Glee clubs need 12 members, and when Will takes over, none of the people from the previous club except Rachel join. * In The Break-Up (04x04), Finn claims that he didn't sing after Nationals, which is untrue. He sang Roots Before Branches and You Get What You Give in Goodbye. We Are the Champions technically was after Nationals, too. * In New York (02x22), it is stated by Rachel that at Nationals, the top 50 show choirs in the nation compete for the top 10, then move on to Showcase the next day to compete for the National title. However, in Nationals, the choirs are narrowed down to the top 3 immediately after performing, and no top 10 list is made. * In Original Song (02x16) Will awards Rachel with the new MVP Award, which would be awarded to the most valuable member after every competition. She most likely got it from writing an entire original song on her own, Get It Right, and helping them succeed. The award isn't continued nor mentioned at Nationals in New York, which may be due to time restraints and several scenes being cut. However, in Hold on to Sixteen (03x08) and On My Way (03x14), an absence of the award occurs, and in Nationals the award is given to Unique by the judges, not by Will. — In “Edge of Glory”, during Tina's first line, you can see Quinn mouthing the line and then laughing apologetically, meaning that Dianna made a mistake. — In “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now”, Rachel's ring is seen first on her left, and then on her right hand. — During “Paradise By the Dashboard Lights”: — At the beginning of the song, Quinn runs across the stage with the other girls, and 3 seconds later, when it shows the girls on the steps, Quinn is not seen running off, though she just appears later in the song. — At the "in the deep dark night!" part, both Mercedes and Brittany turn back and proceed to their positions, with Santana being left. After this, Brittany is seen holding Santana's head, at the next shot, it isn't. — At 1:06 into the song, Mercedes is suddenly missing from the performance. When the camera cuts to the next shot, Mercedes is back in frame. — Rachel can be seen right next to Finn after he "made the vow", but in the next shot she is two metres away (she is not seen moving away at all in the previous shot). — At 2:54 into the song, Brittany and Mike bump into each other. — During “Starships”, in a scene, Unique and Vocal Adrenaline raise their hands but in the next shot her hands are down. — During “Tongue Tied” (when they get back to McKinley), Coach Beiste was walking towards the right side of Emma, but after Will came in she was on his right side. — During “We Are the Champions”: — Towards the end, whilst Santana is hugging Mr. Schuester, she stops singing even though her and Rachel's 'No time for losers' line can be heard. She then resumes singing whilst that line is being sung again but is instead seen singing 'champions.' — When Mr. Schuester is hugging Santana and going to hug Mike, Sugar sings 'We are the champions', but the line was 'No time for losers'. — At the very end, you see Mr. Scheuster with his arm around Quinn's shoulder. When he receives the award, his arm is around her waist.
