Star Wars Outlaws - HDR Optimized Settings
Added 2024-08-26 14:54:56 +0000 UTC
The game is NOT using/applying Xbox, Playstation or PC HDR Calibration app settings.
The game on paper has a good HDR implementation as it offers in-game Peak HDR Luminance controls (in nits value) which can go up to 10.000 nits, along with additional picture controls.
But there are issues when actually configuring/playing it, so it could be better...

First of all: the game suffers from slightly elevated black levels which can not be fixed by adjusting in-game settings so you can decide to just live with it or to further lower the FTDA setting on your TV by extra -2/-4 points (but remember to set it back to what it was for other games).
Secondly, the "HDR Peak" setting you set doesn't exactly correspond to actual max HDR luminance you'll get in-game so, usually, you need to set it 200 nits higher in the slider to actually match it in-game. -> FIXED AFTER PATCH 1.1.2
So, in the end:
If you have an LG OLED and:
> you're using Dynamic Tone Mapping or Dynamic Contrast:
Set HDR Peak slider to: 4.000 (nits);
> you're using HGIG:
Set HDR Peak slider to: 800 (nits) or 1.000 (for G2/C4) or 1.500 (for G3/G4).
If you don't have an LG OLED and:
> you don't have an HGIG option:
Leave HDR Peak slider to: 1.000 (nits);
> you're using HGIG:
Set HDR Peak slider to the corresponding real Peak HDR Luminance of your TV in "nits"
In all cases, you can leave regular Brightness to 0 and HDR UI Peak to 100, as they already represent balanced values.
BONUS:
On Consoles: use "Favor Quality" mode (40fps) if you have a 120hz display, otherwise use "Performance" Mode (60fps) if you have a 60hz only display. With both, picture quality takes a small or moderate hit in favor of a much smoother gameplay. VRR usage is also recommendedDisable Film Grain & Chromatic Aberration: for better picture clarity
Enjoy :)

So, I have some questions here (know itβs been awhile since the game has released). You say the game has a peak of 10,000 nits but it appears it only goes up to 5,000; with that I just wanted to make sure what you recommend for G3 (w/ HGIG) is accurate; thereβs no way to select 1,500 as it increases in increments of 200 (0, 200, 400, 600, etc.). Right now I have it set to 1,600. Additionally, since using ColorControl, Iβve noticed lowering the brightness down to -10 gets that left image to barely visible nicely and may mitigate the raised black levels without having to fine tune dark areas in Game Optimizer settings. Curious to see if you agree

2025-06-07 13:25:20 +0000 UTCI think 200 should be fine

2024-12-17 06:34:44 +0000 UTCHDR UI Peak is default at 400, should it be lowered to 100?

2024-12-17 00:24:41 +0000 UTCI fixed it using this https://www.nexusmods.com/starwarsoutlaws/mods/15?tab=description maybe add it to the bonus section as it turns off depth of field, lens distortion, chromatic aberration etc completely as in game there is no off only low.

2024-10-07 08:11:42 +0000 UTCDon't know then. Other games with DLSS 3.7.20 + Preset E look crisp as fuck :D

2024-10-07 07:56:26 +0000 UTCLol nope as cinematic effects at low, depth of field low, motion blur off sorry brother XD.
haris mohammad
2024-10-07 07:50:16 +0000 UTCOk, then the blurriness is caused by the "cinematic effects" they added to the game at max quality. It's intended

2024-10-07 07:45:53 +0000 UTCYep latest and your preset E but still blurry even at 4k Max and quality. Maybe a bad implementation of dlss? Also fixed or biased settings in dlss?

2024-10-07 07:37:18 +0000 UTCHDR is still better than SDR in this game. For DLSS swap its .dll's to latest and use Preset E via NVIDIA Profile Inspector

2024-10-07 07:30:49 +0000 UTCHdr looks so ass in this game, so grey white and dull. You recommend using hdr or wait for more updates, what looks better to you? Also some reason dlss looks blurry as hell even when updated and running at 4k Ultra, might just be Ubisoft games as they're not really lookers in my opinion.

2024-10-07 07:06:00 +0000 UTCI've changed them once, but then the same
P40L0
2024-10-07 06:59:08 +0000 UTCThere's been a few more updates so still same settings?

2024-10-07 06:47:25 +0000 UTCI rectify: black level is still deliberately raised, but now Peak HDR Luminance you set in-game actually corresponds to the peak while playing. I updated the post ;)

2024-09-12 06:45:04 +0000 UTCNope

2024-09-11 10:35:13 +0000 UTCHave the recommendations changed at all as a result of the latest patch?

2024-09-11 10:34:34 +0000 UTCCould be 40fps mode requirea 120hz so the banding. If you only game on the console try PC Mode + 4:4:4 Pass Through enabled, those will reduce it.
P40L0
2024-09-01 03:15:56 +0000 UTCI've discovered it's only on the 40fps mode, 30 and 60fps no banding

2024-08-31 22:52:28 +0000 UTCsame problem :( sdr it's ok

2024-08-29 19:32:27 +0000 UTCI've noticed a lot of banding in the sky in HDR :(
