Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth - HDR Optimized Settings
Added 2024-02-08 16:57:10 +0000 UTC
The game is NOT using/applying Playstation HDR Calibration app settings.
The game has a decent HDR implementation but somewhat worse than FF7:R with a Peak HDR Brightness selector in numerical values (not in nits) which can go up to around 1.000 nits only, and only for specific lights and conditions while generally remaining in SDR range most of the time.

For all TVs and configurations, I recommend leaving the regular Brightness slider to 0 and max out the HDR Luminance slider to 10
Considering how dim the game can be most of the time, I also recommend using Dynamic Tone Mapping (but you can try HGIG on LG G2 and see if you like it more)
BONUS:
Use Performance (60fps) Mode on PS5: as this is the best way to enjoy the frantic action and fast camera movements/cuts of the game (even if resolution and image clarity will take an hit)
On PC I highly recommend having a look at my Optimization Mod to reduce most stutters, increase performance, reduce latency, improve clarity and all without visual downgrades ;)
Also, for NVIDIA owners: change ReBAR settings only for this game as the following (through NVIDIA Profile Inspector) or you will introduce stutters every few seconds:
Enjoy!

It depends by the TV. On C2 HGIG may result too often too dim so you in your case you can leave the game Luminance slider to 10 and use DTM

2025-03-19 07:33:43 +0000 UTCShould I play Rebirth with HGIG or Dynamic Tone Mapping? And should I change the Luminance Slider to 8 for my C2 tv?

2024-10-02 21:33:45 +0000 UTCNo changes in HDR and, yes, Performance Mode is still suggested. Maybe with the new "sharp" option enabled with it.

2024-03-22 14:21:28 +0000 UTCAny Updates since the patch on the HDR site of things or on the suggestion by Evan? Is this still “the best option“ (1440p output) for the 1.02 Patch?
Daniel
2024-03-22 14:09:54 +0000 UTCAlso if you manually set the PS5 to 1440p, it will use your TV's Upscaler instead. Digital foundry confirmed that the game upscales to 4K via nearest neighbor upscaling so bigger TVs it can look super pixelated.

2024-02-12 14:52:55 +0000 UTCDefinitely yes. The game can be very fast paced with rapid camera movement and 30fps feels terrible on this, especially on OLEDs... ...that said Performance Mode seems currently running around 1080p, resulting in a much more blurry picture, so at the same time I hope the final/release version will improve it as well. Graphics in general seem a step back over FF7:R in many areas, so maybe the demo has been made out of an outdated build (or at least I hope so)

2024-02-11 20:56:13 +0000 UTCDo you recommend performance mode?
