Marvel's Spider-Man 2 - HDR Optimized Settings
Added 2023-10-20 07:31:52 +0000 UTC
The game DOES USE/APPLY Playstation HDR Calibration app settings.
Spider-Man 2 has a very good HDR implementation as it will correctly apply the system level HDR settings along with perfect black levels and great highlights.

The game will also provide additional Brightness/Contrast sliders but I recommend to leave it at their default 50 value as they already provide a correct exposure/gamma.
BONUS:
- Use the FIDELITY + 120hz + VRR + Uncapped Framerate mode on PS5: as this will retain the highest visual quality while providing the smoothest experience possible (between 40-50fps with VRR smoothing out the unlocked framerate)
- Disable Chromatic Aberration and Film Grain: in order to improve image clarity

Hey @P40L0, there is a new, remastered version of Spider-Man 1 for PS5. Do you have HDR Optimized Settings for that game as well?

2025-02-16 04:02:49 +0000 UTCThis game needs FSR3 support very soon which will boost frames significanly and render at higher image quality.

2023-11-04 01:04:13 +0000 UTC1440p is lowest, same low as regular Fidelity. It's the average highest which may be a little lower (around 1600p instead of 1800p). Will still look great ;)

2023-10-20 22:00:06 +0000 UTCYes, as Insomniac does use a proprietary in-game solution for LFC

2023-10-20 21:57:44 +0000 UTCDo we know yet what the lowest possible resolution is on fidelity w/vrr uncapped as compared to smooth? Just curious how aggressive the resolution shift is on uncapped, looks pretty great to my eye so far, thanks for the settings!

2023-10-20 21:49:17 +0000 UTCEven with ps5 only supporting vrr from 48hz?
Mark Barry
2023-10-20 21:49:05 +0000 UTCLocked 40fps is the sweet spot at 120hz with no VRR. But VRR will adjust and smooth out any variance from 40fps up to 120fps. It will be smoother this way compared to locked 40
P40L0
2023-10-20 20:49:21 +0000 UTCThe resolution shift won't be noticeable while the increased smoothness and lower input lag will. VRR will also avoid any tearing or stutter when the framerate shifts.

2023-10-20 20:46:42 +0000 UTCIsn't 40 the sweet spot between 30 and 60 on a 120hz display? I feel like getting 10 extra frames would only make the performance feel worse cuz it's so close to 60 but not quite there
Mark Barry
2023-10-20 20:43:11 +0000 UTCIt just depends on whether you value frames over resolution. Uncapped will dynamically reduce resolution to get you up to an extra 10 frames or so. Smoothed keeps you around 40 and doesn't touch the resolution.

2023-10-20 16:59:11 +0000 UTCI'd like to know this also

2023-10-20 16:05:21 +0000 UTCGreat job by Insomniac!

2023-10-20 15:45:26 +0000 UTCI find it annoying I have to turn it on per game basis, otherwise it’s permanently on for all games and apps on the ps5, I wish it just detected games that supported it and only turned on when it’s supported
Robbie nash
2023-10-20 13:04:10 +0000 UTCYeah, it's also good
P40L0
2023-10-20 12:53:37 +0000 UTCHave you tested Dolby atmos on this game? The ps5 now supports it on supported games and Spider-Man 2 supports it
Robbie nash
2023-10-20 12:49:44 +0000 UTCSo which vrr mode is better, smooth or uncapped? When paired with fidelity mode on a 120hz screen

2023-10-20 09:11:48 +0000 UTCHDR aside, I thought the color settings on my display had been accidentally oversaturated but then I realized Insomniac just went for a much more colourful look this time around. City is quite vibrant, especially during the daytime.
