I’m sorry for being late again this month. I feel like I’m trying to do too many things at once (It's because my attention span is so short I can't focus on one thing for long T-T), which means nothing is actually getting finished! 😭 Currently, I’m working on the new 3D condom and the BN GMWK (a rework of RDTK MK II with a 'Sweaty Wet' look) too.
It's been a while since my last 3D pubic hair release, and honestly, it’s because it’s quite difficult. I’ve had this prototype for a long time and used it in my renders, but importing it into the game is a different story. The original mesh contained over 300k polygons, which is way too much for The Sims 4 engine to handle. I have to reduce the number while maintaining the overall look. 😖
For the B7 PB3D C1, I didn't want to make just another pubic hair mod, I wanted it to be better, give more options and work perfectly with WW. The problem was, when I tried to increase the polygon count for better strand definition, the TS4 engine just didn't like it, the mesh looked bad and distorted. B6 PB3D doesn't have the same problem, maybe it was because the latest pubic hair has thinner strands.
It took me so long to figure this out, but I found that it was a floating-point precision problem. The game can't handle numbers with long decimals (like 0.123456) both vertex locations and uv_0 for morphs have to be rounded up to 4 decimal places (eg 0.1234). Luckily, vertex weights weren't affected.
Creating the tuning XML was also confusing. Static tuning is easy, but making a dynamic pubic hair length tuning file is tough. I had to write a script to handle it for me. It was a lot of trial and error, but I’m glad I now have another CLI tool for future BTTB projects!
I really love the new pubic hair, especially the short length. It looks so good on my Sims... maybe just because it's my preference? 😏👍
