Development update

I am back today with a small update on what's currently going on in DD development! It's pretty brief today, as most of what's happening is going on in the public DD beta testing thread. I assume most of you have already had a look at it. If not, you can find the beta here: https://www.loverslab.com/topic/69936-devious-devices-framework-developmentbeta/

So far, it's looking much better than I expected. Despite the extent of the changes in DD5, no truly major issues have been found so far. The new device code seems to be stable and working. I have received exactly zero reports of problems with it so far, despite many dozen users have downloaded the beta! Wow! The bugs I got reported have largely been already fixed (except that dreaded outfit code that keeps haunting me!). At this point I am optimistic to be able to release DD5 still before Halloween.

Work on DCL 9 is progressing nicely as well. Since DD5 seems to be on the right track, I have started to replace DD4 API calls with their new, faster DD5 versions and remove redundant code not needed anymore for DD5 (such as computing the rendered device or keyword parameters when manipulating devices). The result is very, very noticeable. Devices go on and off faaaaaaast now!!!

So far I have refrained from releasing a DCL 9 beta version, simply because I am a bit scared of getting overwhelmed with bug reports for TWO large projects at once. But I am cautiously optimistic that DCL 9 will soon be able to enter its own beta phase, as reports for DD5 indeed seem to dry up a bit, which seems to indicate that it's progressing towards a stable state. Right now, it's more about what other new features I still want to add to DCL. There are still a few things on the list I want to do, but version 9 is already the largest ever DCL update, so I need to draw a line somewhere and feature-freeze the thing, so you guys and girls can enjoy it! There is always DCL 10!

I’m following the dd5 beta thread and it seems you’re still quite busy there. I wish you and everyone else working on it good luck. Looking forward to the final release!

I agree that it's about time for DCL 9. The reason why I didn't do yet is simply because I was a bit afraid that having to handle two large-scale betas at the same time would be a bit overwhelming. A Kimy doesn't scale! But seriously, the DD5 version I released to day is pretty much a release candidate at this point. Bug reports have dried up, so I guess we're about to be good to go for DCL 9. I will have a look at the dev version somewhere after the weekend to see if I need to add a few final touches, and then you can expect to see it released! :)

Could you please release the beta version of dcl? Forgive me that i am seem to be a little impatient ,but like releasing the dd5 beta , we can also test and provide some log for you , isn't it?

It is very impressive to get so little bugs, I'd love to read the code some day! You are so good at your craft No rush feature request: I've never seen ethereal, ghost, or conjured devious devices. Maybe there could be some really creative quest/mechanic gimmicks involved? Maybe a good DCL idea?

Which slot do these wigs use? I have no idea, because I never used any. :D

Not a DD5, but a DCL9 question... Did you stop the prison entry scene from removing wigs? I know it's a small thing, but I bet people other than me who use tails, horns, etc., would appreciate a fix. :)

The safe/stable choice would be yes. As it's a beta testing savegame anyway?

Yay, can't wait to try DD5 together with DCL9, I'm so excited! :-)

DCL 9 will require a starting a new game, right? Even if I started a new one to test the DD5 beta?
