v0.6 Progress Log 3

A slightly lengthier update post compared to the last one.

As I mentioned in the previous post, I decided to remove lewdness level 8 while still exploring the content from that level. Which resulted in having to push a lot of content from lewdness level 6, which was supposed to be added in v0.7. Onto lewdness level 5, which is the one being added in v0.6.

Some of that content is a set of new outfits. One of them being a swimsuit, another one being a dress, and the other one being a maid outfit. These new outfits are unlocked at lewdness level 5 and they speed up and spice things up throughout every POI. These outfits are the late-endgame outfits, and thus they are the last wave of outfits for this game.

While on the subject of outfits, it had been almost a year since a new outfit was added. Once I went back to work around that area I noticed how ugly the system was. Ended up scratching and rewriting most of the code related to animating Hana's world sprite. The system is now a lot cleaner and easier to work with. Also improved it a bit, so it now allows for Hana's world sprite to be able to display things such as different underwear and accessories such as the lifeguard cap which wasn't really feasible before due to how ugly the whole system was.

New bodies were made for Hana's dialogue sprite with small alterations and pose changes as some of the new events have some interactions that were going to work better with Hana's dialogue sprite as opposed to a dedicated CG. Aside from actual events this is also used in a few interactions outside of events. An example would be interacting with the PUB customers, having them request Hana to lift her skirt and Hana now actually being able to do so due to the new sprites.

While on the subject of the world sprite, there was also a bit of an issue with them. Basically one of the new outfits has a very high level of transparency, which is supposed to be reflected on Hana's world sprite. And this is when I discovered that the current shader used for world sprites doesn't actually support transparency and I for my life could not find a simple solution that allowed the sprites to have transparency, cast shadows, and be affected by lighting. So ended up going with a more demanding solution which basically broke half of the game's shaders. Most of them were simple to fix, but then there's the water shader... Yeah. I'm still in the process of getting that fixed by starting from scratch and making a new shader, but it's been a complicated thing to fix, especially considering that shaders aren't really my strong suit. Anyhow, I'm expecting to be done with this fairly soon, once it's done I'll probably share a couple in game screenshots showing some of the visual changes and improvements done due to all of this mess.

I finally got to adding the missing Inn events. However, I did end up having to heavily modify them from their original idea in order for them to work with the new increased pace of the late game, which took a bit of time, but hey, they turned out great. Look forward to having more stuff to do at the Inn.

There's more things in the works, but I'll leave it at that for the time being. Again, apologies for the lack of posts. A bit of transparency here, there was an IRL situation that started late February which was supposed to last until early March, but it resurfaced shortly after things were settling down, and it ended up going throughout all of March as well. Anyhow, the whole thing has been very emotionally taxing, so I really have not been in the right headspace to make these posts, interact, or to work on Hana's Exposure with a clear mind. These last couple days I've started regain control over the situation and things have been improving, but while it may seem like it'll be nothing but uphill from here on out, there's a chance that things might go south any second.

Anyhow, with that boring stuff out of the way, I'm hoping to make another post mid to late April with some in game screenshots of a couple exciting and fun things that I haven't talked about.

Alright, that'll be it for now. Thank you for supporting the development of Hana's Exposure!

It is funny to see improvements in your style of writing over the posts. It is visible (to me at least). Also, the post was quite transparent. And the idea of presenting ingame screenshots is perfect!

I understand life can catch you by surprise, I just caught covid in the middle of march, and that bad-boy has taken me out of wanting to partake in my writing hobby, even though I'm not working atm. Just got to make and find time to hammer out your passion. Even if that means taking days away from it to remove distractions.
