Not supernatural except for the part that robots like Ted aren't possible today, much less back it the 1950's. My head canon is that original Ted did not know about the supernatural but the supernatural made robot Ted possible nonetheless without him noticing.

I'd probably respond strongly to an episode like this regardless of my own personal circumstances, but it just comes with the territory of reactions. I appreciate the kind words, and I agree--there's no excuse, ever, for domestic violence.
