Denoising the "graininess"

The "graininess" issue has been driving me crazy! I have played with lighting, with the cameras, read and watched all sorts of articles, many of them contradicting one another. Eventually I got fed up and drew on some of my scientific imaging background to denoise the image. First, I used GIMP and Gimmick, but it blurred the images wayyy too much. This denoising is amazing and I think I am going to use it as a batch process on the entire game!

What do you all think? It looks even better for the low-light shots of Divya.

I already denoised the entire game. It took less than 5 minutes to process all 170 some renders.

i think it looked fine when i played through. If it stays the same, i would still be happy for more

Cool, I'll check that out. I have been doing fine just rendering with more samples, but maybe I can get away with rendering a shorter amount of time and then just denoise.

Intel Open Image Denoiser https://www.openimagedenoise.org/ I also found this awesome command line tool by Declan Russell of the same engine. https://github.com/DeclanRussell/IntelOIDenoiser/releases

That looks really good. Doesn't look like much detail was lost in the process either. What did you use for the denoising?
