Changing Patreon fees and The Twisted Path

On December 6th, I got an email from Patreon telling me they were going to increase the charges that you, the patrons, were going to pay. They pitched it to me as though it was a way to make their payments more predictable. I was supposed to be 95% of the pledges rather than the fluctuating amount it has been.

Of course, that was crap. The payment will be 95% of the pledge, but only because they're hanging the credit card processing fees on you guys as an extra. In the past, that came from my share. I have no idea why that's supposed to be a good idea, but I don't much like it. You can read more here.

So far, five backers have dropped me, and I can't blame them at all. Anyone else wanting to back out before next month's tally should do so.

HOWEVER! I've already promised my new Twenty Palaces novella gratis to everyone on my Patreon. It's currently with a copy editor right now, and I plan to work on the cover art tomorrow. My plan is to give you guys a download link before Giftmas.

Is it fair that, patrons are being driven away by fee increases just as I'm (finally) about to give patrons something they actually want?

I think not. So, anyone who was a patron on my account on December 5th of this year will get a message through Patreon when the novella drops. Inside that message will be the same download link that current patrons will get.

I'm grateful to all of you for your support and I'm annoyed that Patreon has handled this change so badly.

Thanks, everyone.
