Xenogears Perfect Works: History, Part I

Here we are. You've supported us, so we're delivering something weird: the first installment of the Perfect Works Miniseries
We're going to experiment with a multi-faceted approach to covering the content found within the book -- a mixture of audiobook-style readings and discussion episodes.
We'll begin with the first part of the History chapter, which discusses the origins of the Xenogears episode timeline, the creation of Deus, the events surrounding the crash of Eldridge, the rise of Emperor Cain, the establishment of the Self-Restoration System of Deus, and of course, the birth of Miang and Eleyham.
For this episode, we are using the translation found at GameFAQs by int (t3xt, the Perfect Works Translation Project.

Listening to this I couldn't help but be reminded of the theory of quantum mechanics in which a quantum particle/wave is forced to be a particle when observed but allowed to be a wave when not observed. I think when Abel observed the Wave Existence, he forced it to become a particle, in other words, forced it to manifest itself in the 3rd dimension as something that is observable and he was able to understand, Elehaym, while it continues to be able to exist secondarily in a form known as Miang which has a will that would be beyond human understanding. Then, on top of that, it reminds me a lot of the Lovecraftian concept where the Cthulhu is beyond human understand to the point that when witnessed and observed it causes madness in the individual. Abel was allowed to witness the Wave Existence but instead of being driven mad, he forced it into a form that he could understand, a mother figure. And then to top it off, the Fei we control later down the line of Abel's reincarnation is driven mad to the point that he himself has been split into multiple beings. And where do all his problems eventually stem from? Witnessing the Wave Existence. It's like this perfect sci-fi marriage of quantum theory and lovecraftian horror.

Bought the book, and looking at it while listening to the episodes. It’s suprisingly easy to know what text is being translated because of the save jingle. I can’t read a single letter of japaniese, so i’m mostly looking at the pictures. Having an online translation on the side helps to understand some of the graphs. Loving it so far 👍
