Item - Iron Impact

Iron Impact

Wondrous item, uncommon (requires a creature missing an arm)

Designed for personal use by Sharhdar Khandar, a commander of the Azalis Empire's royal army, this prosthetic was created after he lost his left arm in the Battle of Rah’eh Divan. With the help of a dwarven blacksmith, the two hastily assembled a replacement to keep him on the battlefield. True to his reckless nature, Sharhdar insisted on integrating the newly developed black powder cannon into the design. The result was a heavy metal arm capable of firing explosive rounds upon impact—an innovation that earned him the nickname Barq-Dast, or "The Thunder Fist."

Unlike magical prosthetics, this arm operates purely through gears, wires, springs, and pistons. Its ingenious mechanical design allows for a range of movement suited for both daily tasks and combat. However, it lacks the natural dexterity of enchanted limbs and requires the user’s other hand to adjust its position manually. Over time, Sharhdar developed various modular upgrades and attachments, enhancing the arm with specialized tools, additional weaponry, and even enchanted components

—--------------------------------

Mechanical Functionality. The prosthetic arm operates as a basic mechanical limb, enabling tasks like holding objects, climbing, or gripping weapons. However, its rigid mechanisms lack the finesse of natural movement, imposing disadvantage on Dexterity (Sleight of Hand) checks and other ability checks that require precise work with this arm.

Knuckle Shot. This prosthetic houses a single reloadable explosive round in the knuckle. When you hit a creature with an unarmed strike using this prosthetic, you can trigger the explosive as part of the attack. The target must succeed on a DC equal to 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Strength or Dexterity modifier (your choice) saving throw. The target takes 1d6 bludgeoning damage and 2d6 fire damage on a failed save or half as much damage on a successful one. After firing, the chamber must be reloaded, requiring a free hand and taking either an action or a bonus action to load a single round.

Upgrade Options

The Iron Impact is a versatile tool that can be enhanced with modular upgrades, each offering unique functions or improved capabilities. You can install a number of upgrades equal to your proficiency bonus, with each upgrade a certain number of slots based on its power. Upgrades are categorized into three tiers, unlocked at 5th, 10th, and 15th levels.

During a long rest, you can use tinker’s tools or smith’s tools to remove, install, or switch all upgrades on the prosthetic. During a short rest, you can use these tools to remove one upgrade and install one upgrade.

Let me lament my stupidity here for a bit... throughout the process of making this item, I was so engrossed by the idea, concept, and painting process that I missed something really stupid. So this is why, throughout the process. I felt something was not quite right, but I was so focused on the design and practicing metal texture painting that I kept pushing it aside... UNTIL THE LAST MOMENT WHEN I'M ABOUT TO UPLOAD IT!

I realized that the hand/fingers are in the wrong position if the arm is bent that way TT____TT

But I'm keeping it as it is because, one, I wanna show the thumb mechanism, and I ain't gonna re-draw the whole upper arm and elbow parts... two, just a reminder for me to be more careful next time...

Oh i actually missed that part, it supposed to be Dex Save, but you can choose to use Strength or Dex for the DC calculation (to allow both dex or str centered PC to utilize this item)

Sinlaire

Hey so I have one quick question. For the DC, if I choose Strength, does that mean the recipient needs to make a Strength saving throw? Or is it a Dex Saving Throw for the Knuckle Shot?

Luck of the Blade

Is this one in the docs?

RacuTW

Just say that the arm is double jointed and you can punch around corners with it.

d.jack

damn, I should just use that as a justification for the wrong anatomy XD XD

Sinlaire

Hmm, i think it looks ok but as a right arm prosthetic. I did think that it had a flame vent but its an expended shell casing. This is so perfectly timed for our campaign. Our NPC fighter companion lost an arm and loved punching things.

I would add the thumb being wrong into the lore. It being hastily built would make sense for some part to be mixed up. Could only find a right hand gauntlet to modify, or maybe used the armor from their other arm in the construction of this replacement arm. After the battle, they kept the wrong way around thumb as it is now kinda a good luck charm.

Sin- you and me gotta talk- have I ever told you that I love you? Because I love you (platonically Ofc unless- 👀 jk jk) you’re work never ceases to amaze me, I wish I could support more, or maybe work with you OJ a project in the future, ALSO YOU HAVE TO TELL ME HOW YOUR DND GAMES ARE GOING! And when do we get a fredrica (hope I didn’t spell her name wrong) Character sheet reveal love you heaps keep being you!

Zombie

Yeah, it stacks it's like + from weapon/tattoo. As usual the formula is just to limit and grow the bonus from +1 to +3 so that you can give it to a PC at any point in the campaign.

Sinlaire

Would Reinforced Strike stack with unarmed attack proficiency?
