Speartember

Illuminated Ingress

Weapon (spear or pike), very rare (requires attunement)

—-------------------

The spear known as The Illuminated Ingress is a "key" bestowed upon select Archivists and esteemed members of the Grand Library by the Lore Mistress. This spear holds the unique ability to open a small spectral gate, allowing its wielder to temporarily summon a tome from a designated section of the Enlightened Hall. These tomes contain powerful divine magic, capable of manifesting the essence of the knowledge or stories they hold. Such manifestations can take the form of blessings upon the wielder or magical phenomena that affect the surrounding area.

Typically, members of the Grand Library are only permitted to carry this spear outside the Sanctuary grounds or Grand Library facilities during official missions. Each key grants access to a specific section of the Hall, though some keys provide entry to multiple sections. However, those unfamiliar with the contents of their assigned section may find it difficult to control which tome is summoned when they open the gate.

—-------------------

You gain a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this magic spear. While attuned to the Spear-Key, you gain proficiency in one of the following skills of your choice: Arcana, Nature, or Religion. Additionally, when you make an ability check recall information, you can add a d6 to the roll.

Spells. The Spear-Key has 4 charges. While holding it, you can use an action to expend 1 charge to cast the legend lore or commune spell, requiring no material components. The Spear-Key regains 1d4 expended charges daily at dawn.

Borrowed Wisdom. As a bonus action, you can expend 1 charge to summon a book from the Enlightened Hall. The book appears in your hand and grants a powerful effect based on its story, manifesting around you. The book you summon is random; roll a d8 to determine which book appears. The effects last for 1 minute or until you dismiss them (no action required). You can only have one borrowed wisdom effect active at a time. Once a specific book has been summoned, it can't be summoned again until the next dawn.

----------------------------------

I'm sorry this one took so long. I had to take care of some personal problems these past couple of days. Although, I think I went too far and end up making 4 different sections with 8 tome options for this item >____<

PS : After this (or the 15th Spear, If I can still manage to finish it in time), I'll take a bit of a break until the end of this week. But don't worry, I'll continue again next Monday.

----------------------------------

All the files will be added to a new Speartember 2024 folder that you can find in the Vault

The default concept is to let them choose which section/table to roll on each time. The user opens the door to a specific section of the divine archive and draws random tomes from that section; that's my concept for the ability. Making their own table of 8 options is also interesting if that makes more sense for your campaign setting and story. But they may have to note down their own list and their number. although this might give the opportunity to maybe expand the table beyond 8 (maybe eventually they have 10, 12, or maybe can roll 2d8 and pick one from the result, like wild magic barbarian)

I know I'm a bit late to this, but you mention in your reply to Kite that one key could have access to multiple sections. How would you do this? Player chooses which table to roll on each time? They make a table with a combo of 8 items from the various sections? Some system where they can roll on a table of all 32, or possibly more, options?

NormalNonexistentMan

Ah, I guess I need to specify that in the text. Just like in the visual, it doesn't require you to hold the book all the time; it appears, you open it, and the effect manifests itself. After that, I guess you can flavor it floating near you, or once you read the premise, it dematerializes as the effect manifests itself.

Question: a Pike is a two handed weapon. If I summon a book with it, and have it in one hand, I can’t use the Pike. Unless I missed something?

C Heisserer

many more section, 4 is just the limit of my available time and brain power XD (1 key could have access to more than one section, depend on the permit granted to the user)

Sinlaire

So…there are 4 keys?

Kite

Oooh, ok, thanks so much!! Super cool concept :D

Liefy Greens

So... This is kinda like a premium library pass that lets you check out magic books? If thats the case then sign me up for the book club!

Delton

thank you~ :D

Sinlaire

Oh, it's just a different section based on the topic. When you get this spear, you gain access to one of those sections. It might depend on the character's interest or circumstances when they get the spear. Although, allowing them to pick would also work; Myth and Folklore and Ancient Beast are hybrid offensive + support, Heroic Saga is mostly support buff, and Horror and Urban Legends is mostly debuff. or if you want to make it even more random, roll 1d4 to decide the section, then 1d8 to decide the book XD

Sinlaire

Love it this one art is beautifuf and lore-wise interesting.

Vanilla Ice

What an awesome design, both visually and written!!! A clarifying question: I'm a bit confused about how the tome is chosen in Borrowed Knowledge. There are four categories, each with 8 options, so does the wielder choose the category and then roll randomly for the option within that category? Sorry if I just missed this detail!

Liefy Greens

Were promoting you to sous chef for this one

Alistair Ender

I cooked a lot XD

Sinlaire

I see you have cooked 👏🏾👏🏾
