Bookbinding Stream #2 Announcement

Hi! Announcing our next bookbinding stream this Tuesday at 19.00 CEST (1 PM EST) - If you're following along, check below what's needed in preparation for the stream! I'm really looking forward to it, and I hope you come by to say hello!   :D

So, just a short recap from the previous stream: Over 3.5 hours, I stitched together a text block of 20 signatures, 4 sheets each, which is going to be my own personal painting book in the end! A few followed along making their own books alongside, while most just hung out and chatted. So as I mentioned, here's a list of what I'll do before the next stream:

- Cut and glue end sheets to the text block (I'll make mine about 2mm larger at all the sides)

- Round off the spine, put it in the book press and add a layer of bookbinding glue to the spine

- Cut out the coverboards and drill the holes for the cords  so it's ready to go (the measurement of my pages are 23 cm tall and 21 cm wide - so I'll make the covers 23,6 cm tall (adding 3mm at either end) and 21,5 cm wide)

- OPTIONAL: IF you want bookmarks on your book, glue those to the spine as well - I'm not going to add any to mine, but that's just a preference thing!

This time I thought we'd first sew the head- and tailbands, and then glue on the covers (which seems like a natural end point, as that has to dry at least overnight).

Now, here's what you'll need to join in if you're following the stream:

- 2 colors of embroidery thread and 2 needles

- a thimble can also be handy

- A core for the headbands (rope, leather cord, jute cord - I'll use 4 mm leather cord, but it's not that important)

- Cover boards

- Bookbinding glue or wheat paste

- Parchment paper

- Cardstock / other to act as moisture barrier between the coverboards and the text block

 - Book press / heavy stack of books

No matter if you're following the binding or not, I hope you drop by and have a chat!

Canada has 6 time zones and some regions that don't do Daylight Saving Time. Martina converted it for us to 1 PM EDT (she said EST but meant EDT). So for all of Canada's time zones: NDT: 2:30 PM ADT: 2:00 PM AST: 1:00 PM EDT: 1:00 PM EST: 12:00 PM (noon) CDT: 12:00 PM (noon) CST: 11:00 AM MDT: 11:00 AM MST 9:00 AM PDT: 8:00 AM And here's a map so you can figure out which timezone is applicable to you http://time-time.net/times/time-zones/usa-canada/canada-time-zone-map.php

I just so happen to have a text block or two just sitting there doing nothing and I’ve been meaning to finish them off for a while. Might join you for some motivation as I missed the last one 💜 should be fun!
