Important Update: Changes to the Game’s Music

I wanted to take a moment to share an important update regarding Eternum’s soundtrack. Due to a licensing and guidelines issue with a music platform, we’ve had to remove all of its content from the game. Unfortunately, this means that a few of the tracks you’ve come to love will no longer be present.
However, thanks to the incredible effort of several community members, we’ve replaced those songs with some alternatives to try to maintain the game’s atmosphere. This wasn’t a choice we made willingly, but a necessary action to ensure the project can continue without complications.
Also, please refrain from reaching out to any artists or commenting on YouTube music videos.
Resolving this issue temporarily paused development, but we’re now back on track and moving forward with 0.9 as planned.
I truly appreciate your understanding and support through this, since these haven't been easy days for me. I’m sorry for the inconvenience, but I hope you’ll continue to enjoy Eternum as we keep improving it.

Secondly you're doing a great job so you should rest from time to time. And lastly I have this trouble on my Android phone since my version is Android 14 it keeps crashing and tossing me out I tried everything but nothing worked. So I hope this gets fixed still haven't played this new update. Overall though it's good. Thank you for the game!

I also havent jerked off to the game even for once because of my respect against it, i even created a little game between my friends where i ask them small details about it. This game has changed my way of looking to these type of games i mean the whole genre. The story writing is better than a lot of triple a games in my opinion. Oh, and i have to add that i even own a Nova Johnson body pillow(i believe thats the first in the world). Thank you for everything you have done and dont worry we will be here untill the very end and beyond.

A question though: The post on itch.io mentioned AI Generated music, but this post doesn't. Is the AI Gen music no longer part of the plan? I want to continue to enjoy the game but really can't support anything that uses AI generated "art". I understand if its just intended as a temporary placeholder, though not ideal. You do really great work and I'd hate to see it sullied by AI.

2025-02-12 03:24:41 +0000 UTCCaribdis, here's a thought for you.... Consider making your own digital music tracks, and be done with licensing issues for the music you use. You can get Magix Music Maker and buy commercial licenses for soundpools from Producer Planet in the genres you desire. If you want vocals, get commercial licenses for voices from Emvoice and make up your own lyrics. Emvoice works as a plugin to Magix Music Maker fairly well. The above tools and licenses are relatively inexpensive, and the tools pretty easy to learn if you have any musical savvy. Just be sure you only use soundpools for which you have commercial licenses... some of the free soundpools you get with Magix Music Maker don't come with commercial licenses out of the box, so I don't even bother downloading them (they're free for personal use only). Look up the Max Gumdrop channel on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/@maxgumdrop). Some of the songs are much better than others, but all our music was created with the above kinds of tools. (ACID and Sound Forge were used on some of the tracks for special processing or effects. We've added a few other tools to our toolbox to create more variety, and you might want to do so as well, but I wouldn't bother until you've explored what all you can do with the basic tools.) "Won't Have Your Love" by Max Gumdrop is a sample song that uses an Emvoice vocal. Multiple Emvoice voices can be purchased if desired for a one-time licensing fee for each voice purchased, no matter how many songs you create with any given voice. Or I think you can do a subscription too, if you'd rather. Lastly, if you make your own music tracks, you can sell the soundtrack for additional income, if you're so inclined and people like your music. Just something to consider. It really is easier than you might think, for someone with technical ability and musical affinity. You can try those tools out for free, by the way....

If I still like the OG version most, there's still the decompile/rebuild option for personal use. Nearly tore my limbs out in shock value lol. so i'm sure some will miss songs and music, but i think as long as the essense of the song that's replacing another song is similar vibe and doesnt clash with the original tone, u should be fine :)

It's time consuming and will probably be more expensive but maybe each individual artist could accept licensing their songs outside of the platforms. The contract is at the time of "purchase", so in this case it should be when you license it? If they change the terms afterwards, it should be for the subsequent licensing, as customers buy/subscribe with the license terms at the time of purchase.

I fully understand your point of view, but the thought is in my head that if you let, let the big music licensing sites modify the previously concluded and live licensing contracts at their own convenience, sooner or later your options will be completely narrowed. Not long ago, a similar message was sent by Dream Games Studios (developer of Beyond Tomorrow), but similar cases have happened to others, such as Ocean (developer of Summer's Gone, Where it All Began) or Drifty (developer of Leap of Faith, u4ia). My suggestion is that you developers should put your heads together and work together on a common platform to fight this trend. If you don't do this, or if you are not able to come to a common position on this issue, you will simply be trampled underfoot by the big multinationals.

I consolidated all my finding in a spreadsheet which has the original track name from the 0.8 version of the game, the tech name that the game files use for any of you techies who might want them and also a short description of where in the game the track can be found (SPOILERS BEWARE). 2025-02-11 16:04:13 +0000 UTCYou can sometimes get a license by contacting the music label or the musician directly. I have done this myself for other dev's. But it can take months, and sometimes the artist will never respond at all. But once in a while it works out and you get a license for free!

So it's a shame you had to go through something like this Cari, but in the end you and the team that worked on it managed to turn it into an improvement ;)
