"Gacha bad, Classic good" - my POV

To address the users that are disappointed when gacha characters appear or win on polls: I've decided to make this post to let you know my opinion on the matter.
If certain characters win, it's because patrons like you vote for them. If "classic characters" barely show up on polls, it's because they barely get suggested.
To help you understand better why I believe so, I'll give you the top character suggestions from my latest survey top to bottom, with their relative votes:
Blonde Blazer - Dispatch 9
Reze - Chainsaw man 8
Chloe 7
Lynae - wuwa 6
Ye Shuangguang - zzz
Invisigal - Dispatch 5
Lauma - Genshin
Lady Loki - Rivals 4
Emma Frost
Yidhari - zzz
Yixuan - zzz
Ahri - Lol
Beside Ahri (and Chloe I guess), I wouldn't consider any of these a classic character. Most of them are trending characters or characters that have been popular in the past 4 months.
There is clearly a good chunk of my supporters that like gacha games. In order to not have only gacha polls, I've made the Hot Coffee poll specifically not gacha, since the Bonus Stuff is a poll made by the legendary patron and not me.
With that said, interestingly enough, the character winning on the Hot Coffee is a classic character, but it was nowhere close to the top suggestions (1 vote).
In conclusion, if you want to see more classic characters appear in polls, maybe avoid suggestions that most likely will never make it, like "Bill Clinton" or other extremely niche characters. At least it will help me choosing among characters that aren't gacha.

P.S. Why isn't Dispatch in the poll? The reason is simply because I'd like to play the game before making any Dispatch content. I'm actually surprised they still got these many votes since I barely see Dispatch art around nowadays.
P.P.S. About my OCs, I of course appreciate all your votes. I'm somewhat of a perfectionist when it comes to their full artworks, so I'll draw them whenever I feel like doing so.

I think you’ll love Dispatch. As a 100% Blonde Blazer fan I would LOOOVE to see you do Blonde Blazer. A character outside of dispatch that I’ve barely seen any art of thus far is Marie from Warframe, you could corner the market on that.

2026-02-05 21:23:21 +0000 UTCI would like to add, for consideration, that gacha companies have numerous incentive programs rewarding social media art production as well as PR machines to saturate social media feeds which classical media does not have. It should be considered that many people are being social engineered to respond favorably, beyond normal, to gacha characters. I think this is one of those situations that despite classical reasoning ("the votes tell the story") doesn't account for social engineering and the amount of money being spent on it by the gacha companies. I will remark though that gacha companies tend to produce high aesthetic character designs frequently, which can't really be ignored entirely. In the end though, you as well as the voters voting for it are being manipulated by a vast amount of capital incentive from particularly low social value & destructive companies.

Maybe from time to time, you can split suggestions and voting into 2 stages, when 1st being about title (non-gacha) and 2nd being about character from, for example top 5 titles that get most votes? For example, I'd like to see Lynne from ghost trick from you, but she has zero chance unless there will be specific poll for "Ace Attorney".

When it comes to character polls though I generally can’t consider myself in the loop and so gacha game characters def come quickest to mind. Maybe in future I’ll read the comments of the survey post and see what the recommendations there are

The way i see it is that gachas are more reliant on fotm and are incentived to have the most attractive waifus possible due to the sheer nature of their formula. Of course they gotta have the most drop-dead gorgeous and fun designs, that's how they attract players and make their money! It also counts for anime to a lesser degree, but anime is a bit different. They're less reliant on character designs alone and focus more on visuals, action, plot etc. Plus with anime, flavor of the moment is more spread out. To have a waifu being considered a "classic" that means she stood the test of time yes but her hype is long gone. Gacha girls, if they're picked at the peak of their hype (for example ye shunguang as of now) got a lot going for them: in-game events, novelty effect, fanart momentum, twitter discussions, meta relevance etc. Ofc they're more likely to win.

I don't personally follow all ongoing trends and I don't have any particular desire in drawing one character from every different source material possible. Character surveys help me pick among a more contained, otherwise infinite, list of characters.

2026-01-20 20:15:40 +0000 UTCI like good art, obviously keep doing your thing if you're not burnt out but I'd personally like seeing something that isnt from the same five sources repeatedly. Yes it's a vote, but when voting is just a popularity thing, the other choices do just get drowned out. that's just how it works. Obviously I don't think things will ever change but it makes my voting feel completely ineffectual as I can suggest cool characters all I want but it won't happen because waifu #8006 just dropped so that gets all the votes and I can't personally care about yet another one from that same source. A vote to get a character onto the polling to begin with at all is a really eh way to do things but ultimately it's your preference and even more importantly your workload.

In this madness, Mirco´s art is like a custom made unique knife from a local maker, or fine whisky from a micro destillery, something made by a unique mind, with true intention and without copying something already made.

In the end, we all like to watch new content being delivered, and would not want to wait too long because everyone´s wishes must be completely satisfied. You need to know what to start, and your selection process produces a clear enough result - I am satisfied with that for some years now, because the result is never a loss for me, even if my choice doesn´t win. Funny to see, that I thought rightly, that you only draw full artworks of your OC´s when you really feel it. They are surely special to you.

The important thing is that you do things the way you see fit. Folks don't like it, they can vote with their Patreon dollaroos. Trying to please Everybody will almost always have the opposite effect, after all.

Honestly i just enjoy Scia's art in this hellscape of AI-overflow. And even if my votes dont make it, i know you'll do your best to paint good f*cking sets.
