The Stacks

I was there very late at night looking for a book for a paper. I usually didn't go to the library unless I was already on campus for classes, but the paper was due too soon for me to wait until morning.
There was a murder there in 1969, and everyone has felt uneasy down there since. A young woman was stabbed through the heart with an ice pick, and the perpetrator was never discovered. There were suspects, but...
Anyway, I knew I was alone down there, but I remember hearing, distinctly, a male and female voice coming from behind some shelves a few rows down. When I went to look, there was nothing there. I kept looking for my book, figuring it was just my mind playing tricks on me.
My mind didn't knock a row of books off the shelves behind me.
Tonight, I'm going back down there.
