One of the easiest ways to do this is with a simple Lark's Head knot. You set it to be moderately tight to begin with and it will usually stay in place just fine. The fact that it can tighten when pulled is not really an issue as your sub will be moving so as to not let that happen. The benefit of this is that it is very quick to remove when you are ready.
