BONUS: Voices of Velo-city
Added 2024-08-20 10:01:01 +0000 UTCHello, friends!
In June I had the opportunity to attend Velo-city, an annual cycling summit hosted by the European Cyclists' Federation that brings together elected officials, city planners, advocates, industry representatives, academics and regular bike-curious citizens. It was an inspiring event that left me — and, as you'll hear in this bonus episode, everyone else — inspired and rejuvenated.

I was there to speak on a panel of content creators, but I also used the opportunity to record a few episodes. My interview with Cyprine Odada of Critical Mass Nairobi came out last month and we're working on an episode about the Belgian city of Ghent, which hosted this year's Velo-city. I also wandered the conference floor talking with people from all over the world about why they were there and what they hoped to take home. With so many people representing so many different countries, it was an opportunity I couldn't resist. It truly is a global fight for better cities and we all have a lot we can learn from each other. (A full list of the people included in this episode is below.)
Thanks to the European Cyclists' Federation for having The War on Cars at Velo-City and to Ali Lemer for editing this episode.
And, of course, thanks to all of you for your support!
All the best,
Doug

Comments
The comment about keeping examples of success local rather than referencing successes in different countries was a highlight for me. I can see that helping avoid the “but our city/province/country has too many different and unique differences for that to predictably work” comments.
