Sacred Symbols, Episode 396 | These Changing Years, They Add To Your Confusion

With the chase for AI obliterating affordability in computing-related markets, it should come as no surprise that Sony may be deliberating a delay for PlayStation 6's rollout and release. But recent commentary from a well-connected financial analyst suggests that PS6's purported delay may be more substantial than we thought, perhaps precipitated by more factors than we initially thought. When does the gaming world need the next PlayStation? Could we go potentially several more years on PS5 alone? We discuss. Plus: Chris has played Highguard extensively and has a lot to say, Rockstar may take our advice and forego physical copies of GTAVI at launch to avoid spoilers, Ubisoft unions are agitating for an international strike at the publisher's many offices, MLB: The Show 26 gets its cover athlete and a release date, and more. Then: Listener inquiries! Are mini-maps useful or distracting? How do we feel about Final Fantasy VII Remake's new "Streamlined Progression" update? Is New Game+ functionality catering to an older, diminishing audience? Did Dustin enjoy his romantic California getaway with Brad?

I'm perfectly fine with the PS5, but as a physical media buyer, I'm worried that each year that the PS6 doesn't release, the chances are higher for not including a disc drive (even an optional one).

Colin saying the steam review are weaponized and can’t be allowed to function this way is a completely dumb argument. Saying “you need to play more to have a valid opinion” is just absolutely retarted take. Maybe people haven’t played much Highgaued because it doesn’t capture attention and isn’t very good?? You don’t need to eat a plate full of shit to know your eating shit.

95% of Ubisoft’s value has evaporated. You’re literally denying reality

yeah if you can't measure productivity when WFH, that is on the company, not the person doing the work

Dustin and Colin with scab logic….the money is there to employ all those folks. It’s the shareholders and management who need to get hurt financially when shit fails. Not the ones doing the labor…the ones who control the means of production need to be blamed.

WFH 5 days a week isn't about collaboration it's about trust (or lack of). Having worked in development projects, I can assure you having at least 2-3 WFH days increases my output monumentally. You have 2-3 days for collaboration and meetings. The other days are without constant office distractions where you can knuckle down and get shit done. I can't understate how important uninterrupted focus is to a good developer where you reach a level of cognition not possible otherwise. Most of them are blasting noise cancelling head phones in a corner for 7+ hours a day in the office anyway and wishing they could skip the commute and all the other stressful BS. The only situation where it's less productive is when project managers aren't effective in tracking sprint deliverables, which is never a WFH or workers issue.

I’ve never used New Game+. If I end up replaying something, it’s usually years later so I start it over fresh.

Did you see what Jaffe made with AI though?

Colin on the Steam Reviews: "You should simply not be allowed to say anything, having played the game for 1.1hrs, sorry, its not enough" Colin, think about it. A game could run horribly on PC, or on just a certain subset of hardware (which Highguard does for AMD users). It could be only 1hr long as a game itself. Valve give you the tool instead, its a little slider, to slide to the playtime you want. Only want to see the score if they played 10hrs? 1? whatever? You can do that. Want to filter by English only? Want to filter by negative only? A specific day even? It's all there. It's as good as it'll get. Yes the main score isn't filtered, but when reviews are detected to be fraudulent or "off topic", like a sudden influx of reviews because a dev is mired in controversy for something they said... they don't get added to the score.

Highguard is the least original thing ever. Mix every popular live service and there you got.

The area that I live in Montana has had less snow than parts of the south this winter already. It's actually tripping us out. This January might be the warmest it's ever been in Northwest Montana. Its 52 today Jan 31st lmao

Pleasantly surprised at the lack of people malding over Alyssa Mercante being on an episode of Sacred+. Good job, everyone.

Hearing Colin’s concert and musical opinions is like hearing Jaffe talk about AI lol
