Dustin hit the nail on the head! The character's aren't real Hoeg, but neither is any character in any game or story ever, and yet they evoke these amazing emotions from us. The emotions of love and grief and excitement. Those emotions are the same no matter where they come from. In that way, Verso is no more real than Maelle, even within the context of the game's world. At least to me. Although i also 10000% want to also get the alternate version of the game where the paintress was "real" and so was the entire world.

You guys need to chill out. Hoeg is spot-on about 90% of the game's flaws, but it feels like you can't breathe beyond your front porch without someone filling your lungs first. I'm not surprised the game is so popular—the statistics speak for themselves. It’s shocking, makes you feel like you got it when you need to get it, and people love feeling like they’re part of that big something. They spelled everything out for you from the first beat, and you picked right up on it when it mattered most. Simplicity makes the loudest fart but those with no stench ain't left much longer to stink... Something like that? If you haven't played any other JRPGs, this might be the cat that hung your coat. But for folks who have? Whaaaat? I’m sitting back here, unbuckled, hoping Dad decided to crush a few before the road trip when I hear some of the praise this game has gotten—especially from people who’ve played better JRPGs, and not that long ago. You all need good games in your life. Some of you had it with Metaphor but this is the one that found it's way down your panties, I guess? I’m getting sick of people shutting out others opinions just because they don’t align with the wider audience. Hoeg has fat man balls. He’s not afraid to grease up the fattest pole in the room and squat down even if that means he'll be met with other unwanted (the fuck am I saying here??) poles. If you have any storytelling sense, you should’ve cracked this tale wide open before leaving the prologue. Fine story, great combat—that’s about it. Not one of the greatest made and fucking bizarre so many think so. Fuck the police and Hoeg is right! ((The cops are cool by us, I’m just typing things out while I work.))

I don’t think it’s hyperbolic to say Hoeg ruined this episode. I would have really liked to hear more from everyone else and it’s a shame that Hoeg not only dominated the share of the episode time wise, but also flavored the entire thing with bitterness.

Man i was looking so forward to the spoilercast but Hoeg really just interrupted everyone wayyyy too much. When even Cog has to say “hold up- let me finish” you know it’s too much. Also- Hoeg is literally just yelling into his mic. It was a very hard listen unfortunately. Looking forward to a second spoilercast where everyone actually gets time to talk.

First time, long time. I should maybe give you guys more praise for the great job you’ve done. However, this was the first Sacred Symbols anything I could not finish. It felt like a Fox News or CNN panel where one person was raving mad and had to be right about everything. Constantly cutting off other hosts to the point where they had to say “stop” “wait” and “hold on” repeatedly. I have to deal with people like this in my professional life so this wasn’t fun, it felt like a bad day at work. I really hope the second one gives this game the chance it deserves.

i hate skill trees with the passion of 1000 suns, so i honestly didn't even notice gustaves tree was limited, because i don't think i even looked at his skill tree 😅

Would have enjoyed hearing from the other 3 hosts. Did not appreciate the monologue that was 80% of this "discussion".

It’s interesting, I don’t exactly disagree with Hoeg; however, for some of the reasons he didn’t like the story, I actually liked it! I loved the conundrum of the world being a work of fiction but the people feeling real and how you grapple if that is enough to be “real”. I also love that so much is up for interpretation and less told to you.

It sucks with how much I was looking foreword to the talk about this game and the moral points that this cast would have on aspects of this world and narrative, but to have the conversation dominated by someone so absent of what the game was trying to say was such a bummer. I loved the way Cog would go in depth on areas he didn’t overly like with nice points, how Dustin and Chris bring this story into their lives, and just get the other front not fully understanding the narrative concepts. Really looking foreword to the second spoilercast.
