Just for those who are curious about Harry Potter extended content, the cursed child play is an amazing two part story that I highly recommend to any Harry Potter fan. The only thing that threw me off in it was that they made Hermione and her daughter black, which doesn’t make any sense and doesn’t have any other explanation other than they were looking to throw a little diversity in there. Other than that, the story is incredible and it would make an amazing film. I do agree that the fantastic beast series is ass.

Metaphor is not a political game. The game does not invest in trying to make you (the player) believe in a political ideology corresponding to our current world politics. You can say the game has governmental themes/ political undertones but that's not its focus. The racism and one savior narratives in the game are cultural ideas that go back thousand of years and are the true focus. Now Dragon Age: the Veilguard is however a political game because like Chris said, it actively has our world identical policies in a game world that should not have them. It is forced on the player and the game doesn't give you away to avoid the situation in its dialogue options. All that to say, cut the bs, politics left leaning, right leaning bs is not in fucking everything.

I just ended my support this month. Not strictly because of their political leaning, but I feel like I’ve “outgrown” their approach to media. I think Gene has mentioned this in the past, but “modern audience” is really just the big companies trying to reach as large an audience as possible. That means making it as accessible as possible. That could be camera and graphics style, such as Silent Hill moving from fixed camera angles to over the shoulder. It could also be the more social elements of a game’s story. Just whatever they think will make the “product” as universally accessible as possible.

I think a game like Metaphor doesn't get flak for being "woke", even though it contains leftist viewpoints, because it's a Japanese game. What "woke" means to a fuck ton of outraged people is "women" or "people of color" or "LGBTQ". They think TLOU2 is "woke" for no reason other than LGBTQ characters star in it, not for the politics. But an anime fantasy game doesn't read as "woke" to them because the characters read as "white" and the women are all drawn very flatteringly, and there aren't a lot of LGBTQ in their games. The anti-woke crowd simply cares about a bunch of buzz topics that they barely understand because someone told them to be mad at them, and they're racist, homophobic, and sexist. I'm told, on a nearly constant basis from so many places, "who to vote for". So them giving what amounts to an ultimatum, to me, is their perogative, and not very weird or gross at all. People can draw lines with their audience, i think. Its just another way of saying if you vote for Trump, you aren't welcome there. Im an adult. Maybe it was around the first MoriartyXJaffe where I finally heard more about the KF and Colin split and then I couldn’t look at those guys the same way.

Ah geez, I feel like I’m gonna get crucified for my thoughts here, but I’ve been feeling weird about how the podcast has been going for awhile. Yes, I understand that the majority of people are tuning in for Colin’s opinions, but it feels more and more like he’s dominating the speaking time on every subject. I know you could say it’s parasocial to try to analyze these people I don’t really know, but I feel like I know how Dustin and Chris are feeling. Colin will just go and go and go and go and occasionally you will hear a meek attempt by Chris or Dustin to interject and they get totally steamrolled. It’s like when a co-worker or a spouse is venting to you and you get cut off constantly and then it’s been like 45 minutes and all your contributions turn into “ yeah” or “dang, that sucks”. It’s like a total lack of social awareness, like you don’t want a conversation, you just want an audience. I understand Colin is the main draw, but maybe a way to find a better balance is to change the way each subject is tackled. Keep each subject write-up shorter, and go immediately to your co-hosts, rather than wringing out every last drop of a point to be made and then getting a “yeah, you pretty much covered it all” from Chris or Dustin. Colin often has tons of insights on subjects, so I doubt it will ever happen that he is the one to say the line. On a side note, I feel like Colin dominating the convo is indirectly contributing to the people who hate on Chris and think he doesn’t contribute enough. Anyway, to anyone else reading this, if you think I’m way off base, please tell me how. Maybe I’m just crazy and no one agrees with my feelings, but I don’t think so. If you’re serious about changing hearts and minds, you’re never going to accomplish that by scolding and preaching. I hear you, but I really think if you're going to be on PC you need to be on steam. That's where the vast majority of the market is, and I think that Alan Wake is exactly the type of game PC players would love. I also think Alan Wake being an older title plays into it in that the audience that both played and didn't play the original "graduated" to PC and would buy it on steam rather than on epic. I didn't play the original on release but I got it on Steam and if the second one was released on Steam I would buy it for sure and I think a lot of people are in the same boat. I think if A and B happened then it absolutely would have made it's money back, but I personally think B isn't really necessary and A by itself would have done the job, whereas B couldn't get the job done by itself. I'm confident in that but I'm also just an idiot on the internet so who knows

The basic, shit-tier writing in Dragon Age is a great example, irrespective of the subject matter. The YA level, exposition-first dialogue is barely worth engaging with if you can actually absorb metaphors and allegory. And the reviewers giving an RPG with writing like this 9s and 10s? Our cultural tastemakers are explicitly saying that this is the best we should expect from the genre. It’s fucking dire.

Whether it be lack of talent, nuance, or just misguided direction, people are enraged by entertainment that feels partisan. Some entertainment feels like 2024 political discourse enters in a way that feels unnatural. Games like Metaphor, from the sounds of it, takes on political concepts from a philosophical pov rather than a partisan pov. It’s important to say that some games have certainly been unfairly labeled as woke and it does degrade at times to non-white character=woke, as Colin has said for weeks as well.

I got my PS5 Pro yesterday and installed Ys Nordics on it because that’s the game I’m currently playing.
