Welcome to another progress report!

When is v0.14 coming out?

I get this comment on every progress report, so I want to clarify this at the top of the post:

v0.14 does not have a release date.

As you can see, it is still actively being worked on. When it is closer to being done and we're just bug testing, we will have a better idea of when it will be released. But I do not want to give a date and then have the weight of missing that date cause myself and the team to crunch overtime. The beauty of being an indie studio is that we don't have publishers pushing us into overtime that just burns us out and produces low quality product.

As soon as there is a release date figured out, you will get a big post about it. I won't just shadow reveal it in a Twitter DM or a Patreon reply.

Writing + Animation

These two go hand in hand today since we got the third and final lewd scene animated! It looks absolutely incredible, with two angles and a bunch of variation. Something funny happened where I got an extra animation loop, so I had to write a bit more and sort of change the pace to account for another loop. So you get more lewdy goodness!

Coding

Our main programmer, Nobafka, released the beta for his own game this week, so he has been a bit busy with that! Check out Baked with Love :D

But despite that, he has been making progress on the Ren'Py build, connecting the scenes to the map. He is done with the first pass of Hazel's scenes and is moving on to Robbie next. When I got the new animations, I coded those in along with the sound effects and a few more gallery unlocks for fun.

Unity Progress

Another background was delivered as I was writing this, and it's beautiful. Pamika is a beast.

Lotus has been helping me with the script, reading it, and giving notes to help improve it. We've also been doing a lot of workshopping for the future of the game.

What is up with the Unity thing?

I announced this a long time ago now, and no one wants to go back and read old posts, so here is a recap.

v0.14 will be the end of Episode 6 and the final Ren'py version of the game.

v0.15 we will be moving to Unity and remaking the game.

Two members of our team, Noba and I, are working on the final Ren'Py version. The four other members are focusing on the Unity version, with Noba also doing a lot of coding, and myself doing writing/management.

So we are essentially working on two versions of the game at once, which is why these updates have info on both. We are being sort of hush hush about Unity specifics until after v0.14 is out and finished. Then we will shift all focus on conversation to this new build.

Wrap Up

We're a bit stretched, but I think we are making good progress! Unity is shaping up to be insane, and I can't wait for it to be here. For those who have played Nobafka's new game, Baked with Love, it was made in Unity and served as a testing ground for Nobafka to figure out what worked and what didn't.

But that is it for now! I am refining the script for Unity with Lotus' help to make it the best it can be.

i havent even finished the free version on itch yet but i was already having so much fun with it i just had to hop over to patreon to get the current version! this is such a great game & im so excited to see how it grows thank u for all ur hard work!! :D

It might be a design decision by some. In Ren'Py, a lot of that stuff is baked in, but in Unity, you need to make it. Many developers feel like you need to stick with your choice. I sorta get that. For HL, we haven't figured out how to save during a choice, but we are working on it! Edit: Apparently we have figured this out! So yeah, we will have it :D

Question about Unity. I play a few Unity games and even just played Nobafka"s demo. Is it a limitation in Unity or coding which makes it so you can not go back to previous choices? what i hate most is by the time the choice shows up you can"t save your progress. You must accept that choice good or bad.

I really do appreciate this comment so much <3 I get that people are excited and want it, but constantly asking for a release date when there is a colorful graph showing our progress does fuel my anxiety a bit. We're working very hard, all the time, on two versions of the game, and have hired more hands to help. :D

I hope people lay off you all about dates. You said it yourself the best part of indie is the creators get to work an a realistic pace and maintain love for the projects. Burning yourselves out only means worse products and a risk of so much built up resentment that it just gets abandoned. Keep being amazing and taking care of yourself and your team. We'd all rather wait longer and not set a date if it means lightening even a small bit of the pressure on the crew.
