VOTE: F1 Game History #2

Hey Patrons!

While I was in Austin for SxSW I picked up a few more classic racing games and have added them to this month's poll (pole?). Your patron dollars already hard at work!

On this episode's ballot box are games spanning three decades of racing game history including arcade classics to mainstream simulators. Get voting and I'll record the new episode next week!

As ever, don't worry if your favorite games misses out. as we're gonna cycle through a bunch of these over the course of the season.

Thanks so much for backing us. We're really excited to do these episodes and having the podcast return to weekly has been a lot of fun. We really appreciate your support!

Man, I really played the hello out of Monaco GP II...got kicked off a lot of teams until I found a layout I liked. I want to say it was something funky like layout E or F. Acceleration and turning on the D-pad.

Never played Super Monaco 2, but the first one was pretty great. I really liked the rival aspect and the potential to change teams based on performance.

Got Super Monaco 2 on a family caravan holiday when I was 5 the next day I remember playing it with my dad only for my dad to switch it off to watch the f1 race unfortunately that race would be Imola 94

Wow, I didn't know about the Senna input. It's hard to imagine him using a gamepad... maybe he didn't and gave more general input. Thanks

Super Monaco Because i own a copy but haven't really played much of it and would like to know more

Super Monaco 2 feels pretty different to the point where it's largely considered the superior game (though there is some personal taste for the first one since I grew up with it). Senna gave his name to it on condition that he was actually giving feedback and was happy with the game, so the man did have some involvement unlike most of Sega's sports titles at the time. It was also developed primarily for the Mega Drive rather than being an arcade conversion, so it looks a fair bit better.

F1 Pole Position was not great and also not helped by both F1 97 being The F1 Game at the time and the N64 also having the excellent F1 World Grand Prix.

oh my god I'm shocked at what's winning - haha :D

IGN gave F1 Pole Position a 4.1... did it sell so well or why is it on this list? Formula 1 97 from Psygnosis is the real F1 game to get, or (edit: it was PS1 only, my bad! Guess you wanted an N64 game on the list)? Never had a Sega console, so I probably just don't know better, but why Super Monaco GP II and not 1? Isn't the original the real classic and 2 is a slight update with Senna branding?

René Reiche

I played a lot of Pole Position on the N64. In hindsight, I'm pretty sure it's... really awful. Best of luck Danny!
