Without him, the colonizers wouldn't of be able to communicate with the natives and establish fur trades. Yet slavery in Canada lasted until 1834. There's always someone that mentions the underground railroad when talking about Canadian black history but they omit what they've done in Africville or the cause of the mass exodus to Sierra Leone or how Albertans wanted to block black folks escaping kkk's persecutions in Oklahoma because they were deemed "unsuitable" to live in Canada. And even today black and natives are still dispassionately incarcerated. So let's not omit Canada's own history with racism towards black folks.
