DCAU: The Court of Owls was wanting to go to war with Batman, so they wanted to hit him in his “bat family”. They sent Talon to kill one of them, to start off a bloody war that would allow the owls to fly. Talon aka William Cobb tracks one of the members of the Bat Family aka Nightwing aka Dick Grayson, going as far as to learn his secret identity. He gets closer and closer, to Dick in order to kill him but finds he’s falling in love. Nightwing/Talon/Harem

Chapter 1

The Court of Owls was a secret society that may or may not have been not so secret. Whispers of their existence have lingered for years in Gotham, a group of elites that control the interests of Gotham from the shadows. Things have changed ever since The Batman took flight.

Many debate has been spun if Batman creates his rogues or if the rogues created Batman, but in the end it doesn’t really matter. Gotham is now infested with pests and the Owls have grown tired of it.

They believe that the villains will be easily ended by the Talons of the court. The true problem lies in the Bat family. Over the years Batman has grown with sidekicks and agents that work under his wing and mantle.

There was Nightwing, the first Robin, Wingman, the second Robin, Red Robin the former third Robin, and the current Robin. The was also Batgirl and Batwoman.

Together they fought crime and worked really well as a unit, so it appeared on the surface anyway. Before the bat could grow any stronger the owls decided it was time for war, but before that they were going to hurt him. “We’ll take his greatest strength and make it a weakness, Batman is no great monster or demon, he is a man, which means he has a weakness, and I count at least six!”

“We’ve never went after the Dark Knight before, why now?”

“Because now, the greatest Talon in generations is with us, with him and our army we can kill the bat and devour him.” Said Talon stood up and walked out, he truly was a fine specimen, trained and honed with assassin techniques. “He is worthy.”

“We shall see, let’s see if he can get results before we make a move.” So it was decided.

Talon was a bit annoyed that the court members were looking down on him. No matter how strong he got, no matter how many missions he carried our for the court, he’d always be seen as a gutter rat picked up off the streets. “Do not lose yourself in anger Talon.” The head owl met up with him after the meeting. “You have trained for this, you are ready for this.”

“They’ll never accept me!”

“They will, don’t lose focus, succeed and your greatest wish will come true.” He nodded.

Nightwing, Wingman, and Robin were on patrol tonight. Bruce Wayne was needed for a charity thing so Batman was currently occupied. Red Robin was currently off training with the Teen Titans.

Wingman was off dealing with some thugs. “Hey Wingman, you missed check in, do you need help?”

“I’m fine!” He said and punched a thug in the face.

“Are you sure, no shame in needing help. I can always swing over real fast and give you a hand.”

“Sit on a dick Nightwing!” He growled, one of the goons was about to hit him but was shocked by the sudden outburst and got clocked in the face.

“Yours? Not tonight, I have a date!” Jason blushed.

“Would you two quit flirting, I’m trying to focus.” Damian chided.

“We are not flirting!” Jason hissed.

“Yeah Robin, you should know when Jason’s flirting, he’s really bad at it.”

“Fuck you!”

“So needy, I already told you not tonight, but rain check.” Jason’s face burned. “Robin, what’s your status.”

“All clear on my end.”

“Good, good, I’m gonna be turning in, but if you guys need me call me.”

“Like hell, buzz off, go on your stupid date or whatever.”

“Jealousy is an ugly color.” Damian chided.

“Shut it brat!”

“You two gonna be okay on your own. Maybe I should stay and keep you two out of trouble.”

“We do not need a babysitter Nightwing.”

“One of us doesn’t.” Jason added. This made Damian get a tad flustered.

“Who is this woman, did you run a background check on her.”

“I believe her name was Carol.”

“No Carol and I broke up, I’ve been dating Amber for six months.”

“I can’t keep track of all the girls you fool around with.” Jason quipped though he regretted saying it. ‘Shit!’

“Okay I’m counting on you guys, be safe and I’ll see you both soon.”

“A…” Damian spoke up, but stopped talking. There was something important he wanted to talk to Nightwing about but, felt now wasn’t the time. ‘I should speak to Jason first.’

Nightwing finished his rounds before heading back home. Not to Wayne Manor or the Bat Cave, but an apartment he had in Gotham. He slipped on some civies to get inside without being noticed.

His phone buzzed. “Hey Amber, I just got off work, I’ll grab a shower and come pick you up…” He froze. “Oh you have to cancel...no I get it, stuff comes up...yeah I did cancel our last couple of dates, but I promised I’d make it up to you and tonight is THE night...oh well I guess that’s fair you deserve someone that makes you a priority...yeah bye…” The phone hung up and Grayson sighed. “Dumped again huh Grayson, what did you expect.”

He smiled to mask the pain, he laid in bed feeling completely alone.

Jason and Damian had finished patrol and were making it back to the bat cave. “I need your help with something.”

“Oh what does the mighty Damian Wayne need my help for?” He got a glare but Damian calmed himself.

“I want to get Grayson to move back into the manor.”

“Oh...oh...um…” He rubbed the back of his head. “Yeah that’s a big ask.”

“Look I don’t know your relationship with each other is or was, but you care about him and this needs to happen.”

“Damian…”

“The family needs to be together, for safety.”

“Tim’s off with the Titans you expecting to drag him back to?” Jason was trying to get out of this.

“He lives with the titans, he’s safer with them as a unit. Grayson is here but he’s not with us.”

“He visits, and stays over...sometimes…” Jason knew where this was going.

“He lives alone, in an unguarded unsecured apartment. What happens if a villain follows him home, he’s alone and…”

“Dick can take care of himself.”

“Are you not listening to me, it’s not safe for him to be out there all alone, sooner or later something will happen. I want him to move back into the manor.” This hit a little hard for Jason given what happened to him. He knew Damian was right but…

“He won’t move back in.”

“Why not, you did?”

“Yeah and it was Dick who convinced me to, saying the same shit you’re saying, but it’s different for him…”

“Why?”

“Because of your Dad!” Jason snapped.

“Father? I already spoke to him about this, he said he was for it.”

“What exactly did he say?”

“He said, if you can convince him to return, he would allow it.” Jason face palmed.

“Look, Dick and me, we have our things, I realized that a long time ago that I was stupid, we’ve been able to patch things up and while he annoys the fuck out of me.” Damian raised a brow at him not buying that. “Bruce and him have a complicated history.”

“Explain!”

“Ugh you really should talk to Bruce or Dick about this.”

“I’m talking to you.”

“Fine, but you asked for this. You know how Dick has this frustratingly annoying way with people?” Damian cocked his head to the side. “He has this charm about him, even when he’s not trying he can get people to fall for him, and good lord when he tries…”

Damian blushed. “I don’t know what you are talking about.”

‘Sure you don’t…’ Jason rolled his eyes. “Dick has a big heart, and has a natural way of getting close to people. He flies over those walls we put up and loves us for all the crap and baggage we got.”

“Enough what does this have to do with Grayson and Father?”

“Bruce puts up walls, both as Bruce Wayne and as Batman, it is how he does things. Grayson got past those walls more than once and he noticed. So he started pushing Dick away. I was young when I was brought in but I still remember. Grayson was always trying to prove himself to Bruce, maybe to be like him, more likely to be accepted by him. Bruce started lying to him, keeping secrets from him, he expected him to follow orders without question...but Dick wasn’t just his sidekick, he was his partner. In the end he broke Dick’s heart and pushed him right out the door.”

“Then...why did he come back at all?”

“Dunno, I like to think it was for mine and Tim’s sake. I’m sure Bruce wonders that a lot.”

Jason put his hand on Damian’s shoulder. “If you want Dick to move back in, I’ll tell you this, don’t be like your dad. Tell him the truth and how you really feel, that’s your only shot.”

Little did Damian know his concerns were all too real and came a bit too late.

Talon had spotted Nightwing and followed him, using his assassin skills he was able to shadow him without being spotted. Nightwing was quite careful, a normal villain would have lost track of him, but Talon was determined. ‘There you are!’

Talon infiltrates Dick’s life to learn more about him and find the perfect opportunity to kill him. The problem is Grayson is really sweet, Talon has to question if he can complete his mission or is he gonna end up falling for the former boy wonder.
