Leaving Twitter

I made a couple posts on my YouTube channel, but in case any of my patrons missed them, here they are:

Decided to take an extended (possibly permanent) break from Twitter. There have been so many awful decisions by Elon Musk that should have been the end of it for me. The demonization of journalism critical of his practices, the changes in Terms of Services, the shift to the right through attrition and bannings, the transphobia, and so much more. 

I should have left sooner, but some platforms have become so ubiquitous that quitting them feels like saying "I'm not watching the news anymore." or "I'm moving to a farm and throwing out my phone."  The verification nonsense was the edge of the cliff for me, and Musk changing the Twitter logo to the Dogecoin image pushed me over. It felt like him telling everyone that we were clowns for staying and not subscribing to Twitter Blue, a carny scam for easily-impressed marks. 

To Hell with Twitter, and to Hell with Musk. A shallow-minded, barely literate, bigoted nepo-baby drowning in hundreds of millions of dollars of debt does not get to condescend to functioning, educated adults with normal relationships and real concerns.

I'm keeping the account technically not deactivated so that my mutuals can message me if they have no other means. I refuse to lose contact with friends over this. No tweeting or timeline scrolling, though. The account is functionally dead.

If you primarily follow me through social media and just catch my videos when YouTube recommends them, now would be a good time to simply subscribe to my channel, turn on the notifications to Always or whatever it says, and go from there. This is where I am. Maybe I will return to the platform one day in some limited capacity the way other content creators have, but that depends on who is running it.

No social media platform has wasted more of my time and insulted my worth more than Twitter. Fuck it.
