YATRA Intro All But Complete AND New Project Revealed!

Alright, time for things to get busier around here. The Yatra intro is ALL but complete, edit and sound locked down, animation and all visuals on my end finished. Unfortunately there are a batch of Digital Matte Paintings 'DMP's I'm waiting on and the artist I had lined up has had to push the work further down his schedule. Once I have those things will be looking pretty...MEANWHILE, music! Music news is bad and good, bad in that it isn't done but good in that POWER GLOVE are on board to score the piece! Anyone who's a fan of synth will know Power Glove and I'm stoked to hear what they come up with.

Yatra screengrab dump! (New project info after)

Okay so, while we wait on those final pieces to be delivered for Yatra I can't resist kicking off a new project. Some of you may have spied it on old Vimeo accounts previously, I've had it on the backburner for a long time, enter...

VALHALLA-45 (working title).

Now this project is a little different in that its also a world-building project. I want to create an original action/horror sci-fi setting that I can tell stories within, animations and possibly even games. At the moment it's obviously in its early stages but the framework & tone is there and I want to grow and evolve the universe with input along the way. I'm commissioning artwork to explore and establish the style and world, with some keen artists lined up you all probably know like Igor Sid, Jakub Rozalski, Alex Ichim & Friendly Robot.

The video above is brief but sets the tone and direction for things to come. With more exploration, background and lore in the pipeline.

And now for the possible elephant in the room...The TITLE! The seed of this project goes back many years before Astartes but I want to honestly ask if the name Valhalla-45 comes across in any way comparable to Warhammer 40k. The thought didn't even cross my stupid mind until recently, but given my work history it seems like a real risk. For what it's worth the '45' in Valhalla-45 doesn't refer to a year or date. Keen to hear what you guys think! And maybe some polls might be in order...

Also, if anyone is wondering what this weird little Digital Bones logo is doing on some of my work, it is my branding for original works that I want to establish going forward :)

Storyboards from one of the initial V45 vignette animations planned.

Is YATRA now finished?

Ramez Khalil

Are you drawing these sketches yourself?

amin Boudjelida

This looks so cool

amin Boudjelida

Bro. Your sound design. So on point.

Daniel Smith

I love the setting of both of these projects. Really, REALLY hyped for V45 as I love the futuristic, alien civilization type of setting. Incredible, and I can't wait to see more. What's the song used during the teaser trailer here?

Alexander Heyerdahl

Show me more master 💥💥💥

David Jurik

I can see how the 45 seems random/tacked on...atm it refers to a group of warriors involved in a pivotal event in the setting, but without knowing much about that it's mostly a cool sounding number that rolls off the tongue nicely.

Astartes

Dark Gundam! Hey I like that term...

Astartes

Those are great ideas Bot! "It sounds like you're thinking of applying some older social structures / mythological ideas on top of the sci-fi setting" - Yes very much so :) At the moment the name both implies what you said above, and also refers to a real place which is one of the points of inspiration for the setting, Jupiter's moon Callisto, it features a massive multi-ring crater named, 'Valhalla'. And the 45 refers to a group of warriors involved in an important event that occurs there. BUT nothing is set in stone at this point and I want to feel things out as it grows and not get locked into anything unnecessarily.

Astartes

Lots of voyage, mystery & action :)

Astartes

Bank details sliding into your DMs lol

Astartes

Cheers Janovich! :)

Astartes

In a very indirect and hopefully unique way yes. Not trying to straight up put bearded warriors with axes in space but rather give a different flavor to a human civilization and how its developed on an alternate timeline and into the future.

Astartes

I can never resist some nice hard hitting drums like those ;)

Astartes

Definite fan of the glory days of mecha anime. But there won't be any highschool kids or pop stars running around in V45 haha! :D

Astartes

I loved the V-45 teaser trailer the first time I saw it and am super excited to see animated content from this world. Also love the name and definitely never made any connection to Warhammer title wise.

Julian Brogden

The high mobility combat scenarios looks awesome and the fairly bulky plated tech look is ver cool - reminds me a bit of Titanfall. If you're worried about the name, I think it does connect a bit much with both Konflikt-47 and Warhammer 40k as they follow similar naming standars - the simplest fix would be to change the number to three digits (Valhalla 450) and possibly steer away from the number 4. The three digit name has roughly the same length phonetically and rolls off the tongue just as easy. Then again, the connection might actually be beneficial in terms of publicity

Legend57

I don't think you have anything to worry about with the number in V45. I assumed it was something like the numbers they put on planet/asteroid names. Not like you can't put numbers in your project titles anyway.

ASpider

okay. I can't wait to see these projects!!! and I'm so glad that I got back on board. And the whole, nordic inspired mecha horror story is an amazing idea!!

Thibaud Fontaine

I think you're solid with Valhalla-45 provided the name is explained "in lore", preferably in the first episode/chapter/etc. It sounds "cool" so now you need a way to attach the cool name to an aspect of the story: is it a year? is it a unit designation? is it a model number of those mech suits? Stuff like that. (Seriously Gaunt's Ghosts sounded kinda silly until I read why they're called that -- now I read anything about them!) Keep it up!

Sean O'Brien

So excited to see Yatra finished! On the other hand, are you looking for anyone to help with the writing of Valhalla-45? I'm working on a degree in creative writing and would love to help out in any way possible

Shin

That Valhalla-45 looks like awesome potential, but the "45" does sound a bit ambiguous/arbitrary. Does it mean anything at all? My first thought was that "45" sounds like shorthand for .45 caliber, but given the size of the mech suits, .45 would be much too small to be effective, so it probably isn't that. Is it short for "year 2045", "year 4500", or "year 45000?" The middle option ("4500") would risk far less overlap with 40k, but I acknowledge that it is a few syllables longer than simply "45". Love the concept, feeling iffy on the "45".

chromicacid

I'm excited for whatever you do, But the thought of a dark Gundam/armored core kind of setting gives me chills.

Felix

You have a way of always filling me with hype. All the shots you've shared of YATRA looks awesome so I'm really looking forward to seeing the final product. And you couldn't help teasing more, could you?! Valhalla-45 is giving off some serious Lost Planet vibes, which I am all for. Nothing beats a good, massive mech suit with some honkin' firepower, moving faster than it reasonably should. As for the W40k-V45 connection, I didn't clock it until you said it, but I can see someone doing that. Eitherway, the project itself looks aces. Let's hope those drawing get done soon

Batcat

Impressive, as always ;) About the name - the link between W40k and V45 did not cross my mind until you mentioned it, seems ok to me (but I might be dumb, so...).

Nizar89

Awesome update dude! Very excited to see Yatra and Valhalla-45 take shape. In terms of the name, the first thing it makes me think of is a ww2 minatures game with a sci-fi or fantasy twist like Konflict-47. Maybe it doesn't instantly put the reader in the mindset of what you're going for? Maybe you could do something that references the fact that small and ignorant humanity is waking up to a galaxy full of the bones / remains of failed civilizations so much more complex than them that they can't hope to avoid the same doom that killed them. I'm sure there's some fancy or mythological words for crypt, tomb, ossuary etc that could work? I love the concept and the exo-skeleton scale mechs look awesome, I'm already having visions of hapless fools being pulled out of them and mangled by unfathomable horrors. It sounds like you're thinking of applying some older social structures / mythological ideas on top of the sci-fi setting which makes it sound all the more interesting. Keep up the good work dude! If there's an opportunity to see any of the scripts early I'd jump at it!

BotBot

looks awesome, hope to get a sense of mystery to go along with the action.

Gabriel Wismer

This is fucking awesome, can't wait to see move. Am down to do some art for V45, contact me ;) @Noobovich

ibrahem

I would donate $100K to your Patreon if I could!

Hellscream

The closest thing it harkens to would be battletech, given the mecha/unearthing old tech vibe and even then that claim is pretty shaky. This seems like it's own thing! Can't wait!

James Earl

Jakub Rozalski? Damn you've got my attention. Also the name is totally fine i had no associations with 40k whatsoever. Love the big update

Janovich

I think you should be fine with the name. The concept and the world looks super fun to.

Travolore

Beyond stoked!!!!!! Really love your direction!

Jay

So the Sunna'kin are your version of space viking? Tell me Im wrong, then I will continue to believe it.

Dan Brayve

VALHALLA-45 look like Lost Planet but in beter, it look realy amazing cant wait to see more about it

Hotfrez

These looks fantastic! Everyone working on this has such talent!

Charles Nadon

And holy shit that intro was dope asf and you used drums of drakkar!!! I remember hearing that music the first time from unofficial narrated story on YouTube called Vanguard-a WH30k Horus heresy excerpt on the assault Isstvan V…, Syama you are a Fking CHAD WITH YOUR ANIMATIONS AND MUSIC

Porfirio

I mean, if Blizzard can get away with Warcraft v Warhammer, I’m pretty sure you’ll be fine with Valhalla-45, though the history purist in me think it’s would be more interesting (and historically correct) as Valhǫll-45

Hamerad

Valhalla-45 did not remind me of Warhammer 40,000 whatsoever… but maybe I’m weird. I had more of a THX-1138 vibe to it than WH40K. GW can’t copy-write putting words and numbers together 😜

EpickBeardMan

It amazes me artists/animators make amazing Warhammer 40k content but also come up with their own new universe inspired by it so many ideas so much potential hopefully some day we will see them on the big screen

Porfirio

Keep the name, it all looks and sounds good. Excited to see Yatra, and especially to see your abilities applied to mecha action.

davekroil

I don't think your title has any bearing to WH40K. If anything it looks more like an official designation for a solar system or a vessel of some variety, something along those lines. I'm excited to see where this goes, regardless of the title!

MrSpectre

I don't think Valhalla-45 could be misconstrued as Warhammer 40K. I definitely think the title harkens some '90s mech/sci-fi anime vibes though!

Davey Perron

Jesus mate, your work is top form. One of the only creators I'm more than happy to not hear from frequently. Makes the other drops better

Talia Rock

THIS IS AWESOME! I'm super excited to see what Digital Bones does.
