2022! YATRA WIPS - 1st Finish Line In Sight

Hello and happy 2022 everyone! I'm looking forward to this decade starting to get its act together :D

I took a few weeks out over the holidays to completely unplug from the computer for the first time a long time, didn't realize how much I needed it! Hope you all enjoyed the break too, I managed to do a little YATRA-esque hiking myself :)

I'm back in the work groove now and have a bunch 'o Yatra WIP snippets today. Finally getting into some more exciting shots and the finish line for the initial intro cinematic is in sight so feeling gooood!

GW hired him and he’s allegedly working on Astartes 2. That’s all we know

JonAtomic

Astartes was made with so much love its becoming a measure of a quality ladder that is getting more and more difficult to aspire, i resubbed to Syama again because i like to support original and new ideas, dont get me wrong i love Astartes to death but i would welcome more sci-fi art into the void

Naseem Shanbour

Blame GW

Lucas

What about ep 6? He already had some work down on that

Magnus

the astartes project is over

keven michaud

No news on Astartes? Ive been watching that episode 6 trailer for a year now lol.. still as excited every time!

Magnus

Looks amazing!

Zappo79

Syama Maaaan killing it !!! I cant wait for the final

David Jurik

Syama, your final image is incredible, but what's more important is your storytelling. Those camera angles, pacing, flow. How do you manage to even imagine that on such early stages as storyboarding and animatic? Where can I learn that?

Hlib Trazanov

Wow! So cool to see everything coming together, you have such a great sense of the cinematic with the angles and motion. Looking forward to seeing more! <3

Sam Bottoms

Part time and some full time in-between professional work.

Astartes

Haha! XD I'm a huge Miyazaki fan, beards everywhere :D

Astartes

Yep! Love the intrigue his exotic worlds invoke :)

Astartes

Was there another video that I missed? I just see the one video with music instead of voices

HoldMyDrink

I notice that glorious beards are a leitmotif in both YATRA and real life πŸ˜†

Virgiliu

It looks just incredible. I can't wait to see the results!

CrimsonQuill086

Love the setting. Were the aesthetics for this project inspired by Jean Giraud (Moebius) at all?

Ben Croxon

Even though it's only about 13 seconds you've got me wrapped for every single frame of it. It's all so smooth, so clean! Glad you took a break, we all need it from time to time, and equally glad you're back with some renewed energy. Would love a closer look at that rifle, though

Batcat

It looks amazing!

Drastickej

That's some high quality animation. Is this a part time labour? Are you doing this at the same time as the GW stuff?

Micky Mac

there was something like "fight us like a man" at the beginning, after "pull the sword from its scabbard", and at the end, one said "Watch the horse" or something like that. Unfortunately, I can no longer find previz and be more precise, but the expressions fit perfectly to what is happening.

Aliev Leon

That sounds like a great tip! I'll try that on my next character animation :)

Davey Perron

Haha! Yes I took some voices from a Russian movie to use as placeholders, and because they sound badass to me :D I'd love to know what they're saying if you can translate haha

Astartes

You're just too good.

Dave Weinstock

One thing I try to do is work on the character animation and camera movement at the same time, adjusting them both in relation to each other as I go. Even subtle changes to the camera motion can add a lot of weight.

Astartes

Wow these guys speak Russian ahahah. Were voices captured from some movie or were they recorded for animation?

Aliev Leon

Man, that hero stance on the ground animation has some WEIGHT. I'd love to eventually hear some of your thoughts on how you approach such fluid, heavy animation.

Davey Perron

Looking awesome man
