"Lady Agnew" Master Study

Oh look, another Sargent master copy! No one is surprised. 😂 This one is of "Lady Agnew of Lochnaw", and it took me about five hours, half of which was spent trying to get her face right. There must be something about her face, because this is the third time I have done a study of it and I still struggled. Her eyes, while beautiful, are very difficult to paint at that angle.
The study is far from perfect, but it was never going to be given that I have far less experience than Sargent did, and I only gave myself a day to do it. I am proud of how it turned out though, and for getting her face a lot closer than I could before. I also learned more about lost edges (see where her neck blends into the chair? A subtle but beautiful detail that I never paid much attention to until now) and I drew the chair without much trouble either, which is unheard of for me.
I put together a WIP gif so you can see just how long it took me to figure out her face. I might have made her head too big...
