I will definitely go more in-depth on exercises and things you can practice in the future, but for now my suggestion is... Always keep it simple at first. Do smaller studies with limited palettes or values. I feel like color theory throws all these terms at you (primary, secondary, tertiary, complementary) at once when it would be easier to focus on one thing at a time. Like it took me YEARS to understand how to create harmony between colors that are opposite each other on the color wheel, and all you have to do is add gray to one (or both) to bring them closer together! You can also make a gray by mixing those same complementary colors. Knowing little things like that make a big difference. So long story short: start small and simple, limit your palette so you can focus on one thing instead of twenty. You can use whatever reference you want, or you don't have to use any reference at all! It's up to you choose, but my advice is always going to be to simplify everything you can. 😊

What are some good exercises to do, to practice these things? I have definitely done color and value wheels before, but I don't know how much that helped me in all honesty.
