Favorite Things...Sketchfab!
Added 2018-11-10 19:00:09 +0000 UTCA few months ago I came across a collection of scans done by Benjamin Bardou (@meryon) of sculptures at the Lourve Museum in Paris. I was blown away by the amount of detail, and as someone that has never been to the Lourve, getting to rotate and zoom in on some of the sculptures like this is really cool.
But I found a few other things to share from sketchfab that might be useful for constructing the head. I know I am going to use some of them myself:
Asaro Head
Planar Skull
Skull Reference
Planar vs. Skull
Loomis Head
Reilly Method
Simplified Head Shape
Ecorche Head
All of these are tried and true methods for drawing realistic heads, some of which are more intimidating than others (I know the 'Reilly Method' must look wild to those unfamiliar with it) but for me personally, I use a combination of all of them. Don't worry about following any particular 'method' exactly either, just experiment and try to find what works best for you.
I would start with the easier ones like the 'Loomis Head' and 'Simplified head shape' before moving onto any complex shapes. I also suggest using skulls too, as it is the most accurate reference for head construction.
I hope these help! 😊
