4 years of improvement
Added 2018-09-15 15:39:59 +0000 UTCNot sure why I keep coming back to this drawing in particular, maybe because I know where the reference photo is and it is of one of my favorite singers, but anyway...
There are things I like about all three, but I am going to tell you why I am so proud of the 2018 one.
It looks the most like him. I can see how much I improved in proportions and form in the last two years. I can also see that vintage style I always wanted coming through. Years of studies from vintage photos are finally paying off!
Is it perfect? Far from it, but I believe perfection does not exist in art. I just like having a visual representation of my progress, and while there may be things in the previous two that I forgot how to do or prefer the look of, there is a confidence in the third that neither of the previous drawings have. That is what improvement really is for me.

2018-09-16 06:39:22 +0000 UTCNo, I agree! I see strengths and weaknesses in all three too, and I think that is just part of growing. You are going to gain and lose things along the way, but I never got to choose what those things were. Like my lines got a lot cleaner, but I may have lost some of the character that messy linework can give. I am not upset about it either, because with more confidence I might be able to bring it back somehow. It is really fascinating to think about. Thank you for the comment!!!

Like each has its strengths and weaknesses (as a viewer) but it's a gentle evolution. I'm probably not making any sense 😅 but thank you for sharing this!
