Finally, more than a year after we announced our new Patreon bonus series, we finally have a premiere date for The Fox Files, our examination of the lesser-remembered TV series of the Fox network’s first broadcast years. Fox first started broadcasting in the 1986-1987 TV season, and that first season two shows would become signatures for how it sets itself apart from the big three networks: Married With Children, which we have discussed a lot, and 21 Jump Street, which we’ve discussed less because it’s not a sitcom, but between these two — a bawdy sitcom that would go lower and be crasser than what was expected from TV comedy in the day and an hour-long drama about a young, sexy and multiethnic group of cops — you pretty much get what Fox would be.
But there are a lot of also-rans, and I thought it would be interesting to look at what else Fox tried out during this time, up until the point The Simpsons is up and running and becomes the network’s flagship show.
Below is the list of shows we will be covering, and we will be going in order of when the episode we’re focusing on first broadcasted. When possible, I’m also including the pilot, as I know I will be watching these.
The first episode goes live Wednesday, July 23! And there are one or two extra series we will be visiting once we get through these eleven. With a few exceptions, these will be available at the $5 a month level. Enjoy!
