Weirdest Episode Ever: Perfect Strangers Does a Bizarre Adult Baby Fantasy

“Yes Sir, That’s My Baby” (February 8, 1992)

This may well be the worst thing we’ve ever watched for podcast-recording purposes. Whom do we have to both blame and thank for this bizarre episode of TV? Nina Matsumoto, Canadian sensation and acclaimed space coyote, who brought this episode to our attention, thus making adult baby play a permanent part of her online persona. Nina, we salute you, even if this episode about Larry and Balki imagining themselves as their own babies (produced without women???) was baffling and revolting.

Want to watch this episode to see why it’s so unpleasant? Okay, weirdo! It’s on our Vimeo.

If you’re listening to this, you’re a $5 Patreon, so might we suggest you listen to Talking Simpsons’s similarly paywalled episode about Japanese culture representation on Full House? It’s worth it, we swear.

Check out Sparks, the all-ages graphic novel that Nina illustrates.

Watch the opening credits to Perfect Strangers S6E2, where Curly Sue herself is listed for this episode and this episode only.

Listen to the What a Cartoon episode about Capitol Critters in case you need an explanation for why it sucked.

Most of my life I felt exactly the same about babies and kids - that they could look into my eyes and I'd give away the whole game about life being kind of shit a lot of the time and that I'd taint innocent beings just by existing in pain near them. I couldn't be natural around them. The only time I ever considered having a kid in my life was when I was long-term dating someone who was 100% sure she wanted to give birth and the idea of a mini-her sounded good enough. Decades later, I'm so glad I never had any kids and at the same time, I've just in my middle-age come to feel very comfortable and even happier around kids. It just...happened unprompted. They're like people-dogs, in that way. Everything you're feeling is valid AND it might get much easier with time :-)

I absolutely loved this episode (of the podcast). Drew and Nina had a great rapport that made the conversation flow effortlessly, and what a fun show to revisit (even if this particular episode is a bit.. odd and offputting lol).
