Call for Suggestions: Early Fox Sitcoms for FOX FILES!
Added 2024-02-06 22:11:54 +0000 UTCHi all. We are making belated progress on kicking off the new Patreon bonus series, all about the little-remembered sitcoms that aired on Fox during its early days. Obviously, we will be covering Women in Prison, but we're interesting in hearing what weirdo sitcoms you remember or even kinda-sorta remember from the first few years Fox was figuring out its identity.
Please drop a comment with shows you think we should look into!

I hope I'm not too late for this! I'm probably a very little bit older than you, (late 1979) but I definitely had some overlap with you both in terms of what I was into. I was certainly spending my Sunday evenings watching The Simpsons and Married With Children, but this is a deeper dive that I'm really looking forward to. I'm going to name some shows off the top of my head, and I'm going to cheat a little, because not all of them are sitcoms. I think they're all Fox, but I'm on the subway and I don't have time to investigate. It also paints a picture of how weird Fox was at the time. Shows that I remember existing that I didn't watch: - Parker Lewis Can't Lose: probably should have watched - Alien Nation: a drama, I think about alien people with bald. spotted heads living among us. And it took some decades for me to realize Alien Nation = Alienation. - Cop Rock: just shocked I didn't watch this one - Cops: that was on Fox, right? Probably syndicated. Between Cops, Cop Rock, and Women in Prison, I don't know what's going on here Shows (some crappy and some amazing) I watched and, in some cases, watched the hell out of: - Totally Hidden Video: dumb hidden camera crap - Babes: a sitcom with fat ladies. I remember a promo where they're live action people chasing animated Bart Simpson. I don't remember how good it was or wasn't, but I'm glad it existed. - In Living Color: I loved it - Drexel's Class: I was a big fan for some reason and still have a Halloween episode on tape. One kid is dressed as Homey the Clown in the episode. Please please please discuss this show. - True Colors: a showed about an interracial couple and their kids - Herman's Head: a wacky premise and also Yeardley Smith was a big for the Simpsons fans - Roc: I loved it. A very Norman Lear-feeling show years before I started watching All in the Family. Roc Live was so exciting to 5th grade me - Gary Shandling's Show: I loved it and it had a surprisingly big impact on my sense of humor And saving the best for last - Get a Life: I loved it so so much. It enormously impacted my sense of humor and love of absurdist humor. I still think of weird little quotes all the time.
