Bob’s Burgers Celebrates Christmas at a Gay Rave

“The Bleakening” (December 10, 2017)

We’re closing out 2023 with a two-part Bob’s Burgers Christmas mystery that also happens to be the last episode a cult favorite trans character, Marshmallow, appeared in before vanishing from the series for six years. This is basically our way of discussing the “Sheesh! Cab, Bob?” episode without having to drag you all through it, because for all its flaws, it did give the world the cherished treasure that is Marshmallow.

Watch the Bob’s Burgers-Archer mashup that got Simon Chong a job making art for this show — starting with this very episode!

Totally Trans watched that Lady Ballers movie so you don’t have to!

Loved this episode! Not super related the episode, more about a tangent: I totally understand what you mean about how you feel about musicals--I think that the issues you have problems with (show, don't tell) are more of a relic of older musicals than newer ones (and the songs that are very "tell" generally work better in a live setting rather than on film). There's a big world of musicals out there--some are very bad, others are very good, much like sitcoms. Interesting about Hedwig (at least the stage version) it's almost entirely tell and zero show--and translating it to screen it became much more show than tell, and paradoxically was worse off for it (in my opinion.)

Electric Love is indeed a great song. Stephin Merritt of Magnetic Fields did a great cover of it. Bless your beautiful hides wherever they may be. 🧑‍🎤
