The Cartoons That Made Us Gay: Aladdin

Trigger warning: This episode talks about the suicide of one of the actors involved in this cartoon. If you’d rather skip that discussion, it runs from 35:21 to 37:57 and then does not come up again after that marker.

“Two to Tangle” (October 14, 1995)

We consider Aladdin to be a crucial stepping point between more kid-focused Disney stuff and full-on dark stuff like Gargoyles, and you know what? This episode holds up pretty well. Thanks goes largely to Jonathan Brandis’ performance as Mozenrath, the most-recurring villain in this TV adaption of a Disney feature and, it has to be said, a big ol’ queen. He’s vain, catty, moody and prettier than most Disney baddies. Really, he works like a DNA mix between Al himself and Jafar. Wonder how that might come about? Hmm…

I kind of wish it wasn't, I'll be honest. I was dire while I was on it. And I'm imagining that patients today are at least sometimes left to fend for themselves the way I was.

Accutane is still prescribed for acne, but under a controlled program with several steps for the doctor, the patient, and the pharmacist to complete before it can be dispensed. Because it can cause serious birth defects, patients who can get pregnant have to have two forms of birth control on record and get monthly pregnancy tests.
