GEE Movie Club is ending, but something cooler is taking its place
Added 2022-10-13 05:32:35 +0000 UTCHi all. This is a quick note to explain what I talked about in the GEE Movie Club post I put up today. I decided to end GEE Movie Club, for a few reasons, the most important of which is that I’m trying to avert burnout by eliminating work that’s not central to the stuff I care most about.
Basically, the longer we did GEE Movie Club, the more I felt like it didn’t match what we do on GEE, which is TV focused. I really loved doing Cartoons That Made Us Gay, and I feel like you all connected more with that than you did with this other feature. With GEE Movie Club, I always felt frustrated because I wanted to approach movies the same way we did episodes of TV, but that really didn’t make sense because I didn’t have the time. Honestly, I look at what the Talking Simpsons guys do with movies, and that seems like the right way to go about doing a proper movie podcast, but that’s also a huge time commitment, for one thing, and I don’t have the deep-down love for movies the way I do TV, for another.
I think what makes sense is to do more episodes of Cartoons That Made Us Gay as an ongoing regular feature, and then start the new bonus podcast. We’re still not sure which idea we will use for the new show, but there will be examples of both — Weirdest Episode Ever and Backdoor Pilots — going into the main feed soon, at which point will put up a poll where you all can vote on which you think should be the new bonus podcast.
If you all really want us to talk about movies, I guess we can open Talk About Anything to movies. I suppose if we did them every now and then I wouldn’t mind so much.
I feel like this won’t be a big deal for most of you, especially because this means more content that’s more like GEE, but I just wanted to explain the change and also explain that I’m doing this just to manage stress and energy levels. We will be doing one final edition of GEE Movie Club, about the 80s vampire movie Once Bitten, before the end of the month, and that will be the final installment.

It's great how you work to keep your heart in your projects and let them go when that's no longer the case. CTMUG is my favorite feature so I'm thrilled by this news!

2022-10-13 19:01:25 +0000 UTCI am super excited about the continuation of Cartoons That Made Us Gay! It is my favorite bonus feature you guys have done and I think it's a better fit than movie club. Y'all continue to be my favorite podcast :-)

2022-10-13 16:32:48 +0000 UTCI agree that Cartoons That Made us Gay feels a lot closer to GEE. That said I would kill for you to find someone to guest who watched Cybersix growing up, because I've spoken to SO many people for it's queer coding and trans storyline. SO GOOD.

2022-10-13 14:55:01 +0000 UTCThank you for this! I’ve enjoyed The Cartoons That Made Us Gay much more than the movie episodes; it really is much closer to GEE Prime in concept.

2022-10-13 13:56:34 +0000 UTCThis makes so much sense. Focus on your passion, which is also why we are all here in the first place. Hoping this all counts for the 5$ tier still so I can enjoy it! The movie episodes, while great, always felt a little like other regular movie podcasts. Nothing about the rest of the stuff you two put out there is ever “regular”. I’m here for it. Keep it up!
