The Cartoons That Made Us Gay: Thundercats

“Mandora: The Evil-Chaser” (September 20, 1985)

Just looking at the character designs for this show, it’s easy to see where things go really gay. However, Glen has chosen the tenth episode of Thundercats to do for this series because it introduces Mandora, an iconic 80s cartoon character who will read a few different ways, depending on who you are and how you think this character is commenting on gender roles. Whichever way you toss the boomerang, she’s got rad style.

Regarding the conversation about Die Hard, here are the additional details: Die Hard was initially supposed to be a sequel to Commando, the movie with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Alyssa Milano. However the plot originated as a book called Nothing Lasts Forever, which was a sequel to the book that got adapted as The Detective with Frank Sinatra. There is also a thematic connection between Die Hard 3 and the “evil blimp attacks the Super Bowl” movie Black Sunday, but Drew couldn’t find it before it was time for this episode to go up. Perhaps you know?

Also, Sark appears to be an old word for "shirt", but it sounds vaguely like Shark https://www.etymonline.com/word/sark

I burned myself on a car cigarette lighter when I was in either 11th or 12th grade, which is way too fucking old to do that. I was waiting for my dad to finish talking to some other dad about whatever middle school sport event we'd just attended and I got bored, so I popped it in. When it popped out, I was expecting it to glow red, but it didn't, and I stupidly touched my index finger to the coil because I doubted whether the lighter even worked. (My parents didn't smoke and this was just before car chargers became omnipresent.) I never felt pain, but I withdrew my finger when I saw a slim trail of smoke. I had a nice little spiral burned into the callus on my fingertip. 🤦🏾‍♀️

Okay, when Drew asked who Mandora sounds like, am I the only one who thought Grace Jones in Conan the Destroyer?
